I’m actually glad to see the police did this. This clown car has no place on U.K. roads.

Not road legal in the UK and from the sounds of things the owner knew this to be the case as it was insured overseas so they had taken some steps to obfuscate its presence in the UK.

Makes you wonder what customs and excise were doing when they waived it through the gates where ever it was driven in to the country.

It also makes you wonder what the cyber truck has that the Hummer doesnt seeing as you can buy a hummer thats road legal in the UK and thats another huge stupid yank tank ?

You can legally import and drive cars that haven't officially been homologated in the UK by the manufacturer. I assume there is some kind of SVA-type process and lots of paperwork to do. You often see them with retrofit fog lamps and 4x4s with spre wheel on the back often have additional indicators (I guess there is a rule about the angle you can see the indicators). I assumne the Cybertruck in question hadn't done the paperwork.

I'm not in favour of people slagging off the car choices of others. Particularly when those cars are BEVs. If someone wants a big car, they should go ahead and buy one, it's their money. We are a free country, not (yet) some sort of authoritarian communist regime where everyone is only allowed the bare minimum.

Cybertruck isn't my bag. But I'd like a F150 Lightening.

TBH the market is very thin on full-size 4x4 BEVs. You have the Kia EV9, the EQS SUV, and that's about it.

Whilst the Hummer is obscenely large, it does at least meet the pedestrian safety regulations regarding not having thin, sharp pointy metal edges, which are an obvious risk to human flesh in the event of an impact.

Cadillac has released info about the new Escalade EV. The SWB version is 4.2tonnes with a 200kWh battery!

Yeah - its actually the same platform as the Hummer EV, hence the 200kWh battery and the >4 ton weight. But incredibly it's actually bigger than the Hummer. Someone decided the Hummer wasn't quite large enough apparently.

It's all getting a bit ridiculous isn't it.

A proportion of the public are never going to buy LEAF/Zoe style EVs…

A proportion of the public are never going to buy LEAF/Zoe style EVs…

So its ok to break the law as long as its in pursuit of an electric vehicle - sorry I find that comment remarkably naïve - the story was about someone driving an illegal vehicle in Britain, it wasn't a critique on the merits or otherwise of the Tesla cyber truck and no one was "slagging" of a persons choice of car just an individuals efforts to circumvent the law.

The weird thing is that BEV'ing a big fuel inefficient vehicle, will actually reduce emissions more, than a small one. Of course that raises the question about the need for super large vehicles like the US demand for full size pick ups (unlike our mid size, but tbh, they've grown massively, from my days as PU fan in the early 90's). But horses for courses I suppose.

For scale, here are some pics I took in October of a CT, with a Tesla 3 for scale. The first pic is a bit misleading as the 3 is in the foreground, but the second and third were taken square on to show how much the CT overhung the 3 at front and back. Apologies for blurry pic 2.










There was also a F-150 Lightning and a Rivian R1T full sized PU's, but they looked a bit bigger, due to the American style high front ends, with 'hoods' about shoulder height.
