Given it's getting to be a bit elderly compared to the competition, it needs to be. Main point is that they're burning up their own margin in the process - bad place to be against Chinese competition.

Tesla makes way more margin selling cars that legacy manufacturers do. That is common in new markets. As markets mature and competition increases, margins narrow.

BYD has some genuinely impressive technology in the pipeline. It'll be interesting to see how Tesla reacts.
