https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-59357306 Tesla drivers left unable to start their cars after outage
Tesla drivers say they have been locked out of their cars after an outage struck the carmaker's app.
Dozens of owners posted on social media about seeing an error message on the mobile app that was preventing them from connecting to their vehicles...
"I'm stuck an hour away from home because I normally use my phone to start car," one owner tweeted.
About 500 users reported an error on the app at around 16:40 ET (21:40 GMT) on Friday, according to the outage tracking site DownDetector. Five hours later, there were just over 60 reports of an error.
Like someone else in another thread (heating controls? pv battery charge and discharge timing?) I am very suspicious and unwilling to outsource lots of my life and data to someone else in "the cloud," let alone turn a blind eye to the energy costs of my data being moved and held all round the world when my laptop and backup drives can do it.

Which is why your recommended to take one of your backup RDIF cards with you.
Its not just an APP outage, your phone could get stolen, lost, damaged or have a flat battery.

Agreed Nowty.
A phone is a back up & secondary access.
The RFID is the key (no hardship to carry) with the keys I always go out with anyway!
1st world problems in essence.
However, the app has been god-awful for a few weeks now, cannot imagine "behind the scenes mayhem" of the devs breaking the software of late.
Yesterday's lockout came in the evening, wife was on way back from training in Brighton from our end it was "no access" (location) but she would have been caught out if taking rfid wasn't the norm over here (& would have been stuck at Dartford s-charger)
We would bemoaned that she was dumb to simply place herself in that situation & laughed TBH.

There appear to be several people who have had the RDIF chip from the card implanted into their arm or hand so they cannot forget it.

Too far! I had seen one in a ring. Seemed reasonable in comparison.

Cool, I guess they can get through the cat flap as well.

Yep. Got to say it's a pain when the car and phone won't chat with each other (first world problems?), but I have the card in my wallet just in case.

It can be very slow for a secondary phone to catch up when you activate the tesla app.
Therefore I use the key card unless it's a scorcher day for entry & fiddle with settings whilst standing out in the cool.
Again, the last bunch of updates have not helped wake up speed, nor location of the vehicle, plenty of errors there.
Currently I've spent an hour on the phone to tesla support this morning trying to sort the sentry-cam issue from my assault on the property, I requested a deep dive of footage via email, & clearly they didn't read it, "case closed" it said, try sitting in your car & accessing footage from there (sort of thing).
Blood temp on heavy simmer I rang them again this morning & it is being looked at currently, no usb in the slot (wrong) ..power to it (we removed it & plugged in a phone) whilst on the phone, ..to my minds eye this has resulted in the opportunity to get the cops to take it seriously & ive impressed upon Tesla that we really do rely on it to work in the face of "footage or it didn't happen" ..because the police like "easy collars & easy marks" it seems.
& based on the previous few episodes & my subsequent conviction for alleged assault ..I'm foaming at the mouth with hatred for the damned useless lot, Tesla fubar has cost me my likely shot at "redemption"
What attitude would you expect an insurance company to take if there was mysteriously no footage? ..hmm.
Temporarily Locked out of a car is trivial by comparison, I'd have honestly preferred that scenario rather than how it is playing out.

I cannot remember if I've mentioned this before. And sorry to go off-topic. I have a few of these:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07QZLR319. I find them to be very reliable and exceptional VFM. They have solved a few mysteries and I have no-doubt are a very effective deterrent, but no criminals convicted, or wrongfully-accused vindicated, to-date at least.

Yeah, link you originally posted is appreciated, I do have cameras but "covid" & injury stymied install, currently avoiding ladders due to plantar fasciitis (flat foot pain in one foot regardless of specialist soles & early years spent ice skating to toughen them up)
The concern I always state (tesla issue) "if it' happening to us then doubtless it can & will happen to others, ..no footage "suspicion pertaining to your integrity" (& possibly a die cast unfavourably & costly accident insurance decision) blame media hype / awareness.
Would have to be hardwired, our internet go's crazy (now, currently due to traffic load in the xmas run up) offline much of the day.
