Russian Electric Vehicle Chargers Hacked, Tell Users ‘PUTIN IS A DICKHEAD’

Electric vehicle charging stations along Russia’s M11 motorway, which stretches from Moscow to Saint Petersburg, are not working because a Ukrainian company that provided parts for the chargers hacked them using a backdoor in the chargers’ control systems, according to a Facebook post by Russian energy company Rosseti.

According to the post, the chargers were purchased through a Russian company which had outsourced production to a Ukrainian parts supplier called AutoEnterprise, a Kharkiv-based EV charging company. This morning, posts began to appear on social media showing the chargers were disabled and programmed to display pro-Ukrainian messages.

AutoEnterprise’s Facebook page re-posted a video taken by an Instagram user from the M11 motorway showing the disabled chargers. The chargers show an error message reading in English “CALL SERVICE NO PLUGS AVAILABLE” before new screens show additional messages in Russian: “GLORY TO UKRAINE / GLORY TO THE HEROES / PUTIN IS A DICKHEAD / DEATH TO THE ENEMY.” The phrase translated as “Putin is a dickhead” became a popular slogan in Ukraine following the 2014 Russian invasion, particularly among soccer fans in Kharkiv.

It is not clear how many chargers are deactivated, for how long they were displaying anti-Putin messages, or for how long the chargers will be unavailable. In its statement, Rosseti said the chargers are being isolated from the rest of the grid network and will be working again soon.

Rosseti and AutoEnterprise did not immediately respond to a Motherboard request for comment.

Putin is a dickhead = Путін - дурень = Putin - durenʹ (almost a soft "g" on the end of the second word) run it through google translate.

Practise your pronunciation first though please ;)

Oh yeah, forgot to mention..

Unless it has changed, "Holland & Barrett" "the health food store" is part owned by Russian Oligarch, Mikhail Fridman if you want to turn your back on "russian by association" brands due to current war situation foisted upon Ukraine.

He's part of Alfabank (sanctioned) & is in the top 10 richest in russia.

1.March 1 AM Windpowerproduction in Germany was 23 GW
2.March 1 AM Windpowerproduction in Germany was 2.4 GW

Strange coincidence  , but it might have other reasons or the Data monitoring website is wrong

At a desperate time to be sure but I think quite a few people would be lifted somewhat by the small but effective gesture of denial of service - there is, reportedly, a significant increase in cyber attacks occurring following with the unprovoked attack on Ukrainian people, too many to be a coincidence so is "poetic" that similar tactics are being returned to their aggressor by the very nation that is under attack. At least this attack didn't cause loss of life, merely inconvenience.

There will always be many views and positions and we all need to seek to understand these and respect one another whilst feeling enabled to express our opinions. No one ever wins a war, lets hope sense prevails and the worlds politicians get back round the table to talk solutions as soon as possible to stop the needles killing of combatants and civilians alike.

It's been great to see Shell, BP and ExxonMobil pull out of Rosneft JV's. Most times in field these Asian mobs rely on the 3rd party contractors to bring the expertise. I'll happily pay more for fuel here to choke that bastards income.

No, but Ukrainian indirect fire capabilities or the inability of the Russian army to use encrypted communications didn't seem of much interest to the denizens of this forum. A story about electric car charging station software seemed like it would be of interest.
