Tesla Roadster
Had a look last night, £4k deposit followed by £34k within 10 days followed by the balance in 2023 (something like £151k). 0-60 in 1.9secs, that is mental!
Oh yeah, the range is decent, 620 miles!!

Re: Tesla Roadster
Kind of odd to think that the Roadster was "Unveiled" back in 2017, so 5 years ago already - the specs then seemed absolutely ludicrous, but in the intervening years, it's obvious the tech has developed significantly (cf. Model S Plaid). Although I note they've never mentioned what battery capacity they'll be needing to install to get >600miles of range - will surely need to be around 130-150kWh, which is enormous to say the least (and heavy)?
I doubt UK-legal Right Hand Drive versions will be rushed into production anytime soon either, can't see it hitting UK roads for quite a while yet.

Re: Tesla Roadster
Yep, 200kWh. I always thought the 600 mile range seemed silly for this type of car, but it was explained to me that that was just a side effect. The range is due to the enormous battery size, and the enormous battery is needed to be able to provide the insane instantaneous power needed for the performance.Joeboy wrote: ↑Fri Apr 15, 2022 9:49 amIt is a 200kWh battery pack.dan_b wrote: ↑Fri Apr 15, 2022 9:35 am Kind of odd to think that the Roadster was "Unveiled" back in 2017, so 5 years ago already - the specs then seemed absolutely ludicrous, but in the intervening years, it's obvious the tech has developed significantly (cf. Maybe battery tech will improve, such as the 4680's allowing the same power from a smaller capacity, without killing the batts too quickly? Or add 2kWh of supercapacitors to act as a buffer for hyper acceleration and regen?

Re: Tesla Roadster
Insane bit of engineering and don't wish to "rain on anyone's parade" BUT I would be more pleased if they put the same effort into producing a small, practical, affordable, no frills, long range EV. And by small I mean small hatchback size similar in size to the old Peugeot 106 etc. Sod the autonomous modes, sod the self driving, sod all the gadgets and infotainment screens, apps, OTA updates etc. I just want something small and practical and affordable for the average bod that is not impressed by "supercar" bells and whistles. Hopefully BYD will be along with a RHD Dolphin in the UK soon.

Re: Tesla Roadster
I suppose the car manufacturers have to put a line in the sand to rival the traditional ICE companies.
Presume this is performance and style/design.
I’m sure, though, the market is mature enough for a ‘peoples wagon’ - no frills, average performance, 3-350 mile range BEV. Or is the cost effectively in the battery and motors plus associated technology ?

Re: Tesla Roadster
"luxury" top end cars are where the manufacturers can make most money - it just grates hugely with me the size/performance/cost of them and the fact they are promoted as sustainable and green. slightly greener maybe, but not sustainable in my book, to me the bloated modern car has lost the plot.
Be nice if the BYD Dolphin was available here. They are doing RH drive for Australia but launch is in Dec 2022 and price will be around £20k for the cheapest.
This link is to a review where he quotes around £14k as the current price in China, but then you have export costs and duty to add on top.
