Another Lister generator problem

My single cylinder lister ST, very low hours, ran out of fuel today (for the first time). No problem, thinks I. I bled the fuel filter, no joy. Undid the cover for the fuel pump and bled that. But she just doesn't want to run. No sign of it firing or smoke out of the exhaust. Help! Not sure what I can do next...

Not sure about your Lister, but I seem to remember on a Landrover that the injectors had to be bled to remove air from the injector pipes and allow fuel to fill them otherwise it would not run. Perhaps you have to do someting similar ?

Thanks for inputs. In the manual, it just says the thee bleed points, but tomorrow, I will try disconnecting from the injector and see if fuel is being pumped up to that point. Always through these were easy to get going!!

Any diesel engine you really want to prime fuel all the way to the injector pipe where it mounts on the injector.

Changed the fuel filter on our 08 diesel transit the other month and in the end I had to put a rubber hose over a bleed port on the fuel pump and suck through manually, got it done.

Bet it's an airlock

Fuel flows through the bleed points ok, will disconnect pipe to injector tomorrow. Finger crossed. Don't want to rely on one generator...

Darn it. Fuel pumps out of the injector pump ok, but still no sign of it running. tiny bit of smoke out of the exhaust. To slack off the injector pipe, looks as if I have to remove the rocker cover...pain.

OK, managed to remove the valve cover to access the injector, and unscrewed the fuel pipe. Turned the engine over and fuel is coming out. Very odd, had lot's of engines run out of fuel and they've always started, eventually. There appears o be mist coming out of the exhaust. Think it might beyond me, will have to find a mechanic to take a look. Could try some easy start, but not sure you can buy it anymore. Any ideas anyone?

Thanks,

Mike

You can still buy easy start, that's what I would do. Mind I could tell you a few tales about getting diesels with clockwork starters going down the pit where aerosols and flammable liquids weren't allowed.
