Ah so this is where everyone went :)

Post by SafetyThird »

Hello all, after a year of not having time to spend much of it on forums, I tried to log in to Navitron and found it gone. After some searching I've found many of the former members hanging out here so I'm back again as well. I was mr_magicfingers over there but now using SafetyThird as my online persona.

For the past 8 years we've been renovating our old farm house and finally last year moved from heating purely with logs and woodburners to having a ground source heat pump and radiators. It's like magic getting up in the winter and the place is warm. I could get used to this :) Sadly this meant that the wonderful Dunsley Yorkshire stove had to go as we're not eligible for RHI with it connected. We have 6kw of solar on the roof though we're inverter limited to 3.8kw output to the grid, an Eddi diverter and we're looking at some new options to expand our generation and keep us using as little grid power as possible. I'll go into that in another post.

So, hi everyone, it's been a while, hope you're all keeping well.

Jay.

Hi Jay,

You still wearing that purply fluffy number ?

I stuck with my old monica of Moxi - just because i am both lazy and unimaginative :)

Did you get your walls insulated in the end?

Great to have you back with us,

Thanks everyone, it's great to be back amongst friends again. it's been a difficult couple of years as I imagine it has been for everyone.

Quick update about our place: We've stopped running the glamping site for a few years due to some changes over the past two. Might come back to it at some point, but for now, it's shelved.

House wise, we didn't do the wall insulation. We did take off all the concrete render, inside and out, left it for a few years to really dry the walls and then rendered in traditional lime, replaced all the windows and doors with modern double glazed units in oak, insulated the loft and put in two efficient woodburners which supplied our heating and hot water, along with the 6kw of solar. The cottage is pretty much fully renovated now with just a replacement for the old conservatory still to do, hopefully this year.

I'll start a new thread in the solar/battery section as I'm now looking at the next stage towards more energy independence.
