Darren Morgan, ONS director of economic statistics. said: “The UK economy grew for the fourth consecutive quarter and is now clearly above pre-pandemic levels, although growth in the latest three months was the lowest for a year.
“This was driven by growth in a number of service sectors as the economy continued to recover from Covid-19 effects, including hospitality, transport, employment agencies and travel agencies. There was also strong growth in IT.”
“There were, though, some downwards effects from other services, including retailing, wholesaling and car sales and also health, due to continuing decreases in the Test and Trace service and vaccination programmes.
“Our latest monthly estimates show GDP fell a little in March, with drops in both services and in production. Construction, though, saw a strong month thanks partly to repair work after the February storms.”
Did cutting back T&T really cut GDP? I knew it was an expensive way of shovelling money into cronies' pockets, but never dreamt that it would distort national statistics...
2.0 kW/4.62 MWh pa in Ripples, 4.5 kWp W-facing pv, 9.5 kWh batt
30 solar thermal tubes, 2MWh pa in Stockport, plus Congleton and Kinlochbervie Hydros,
Most travel by bike, walking or bus/train. Veg, fruit - and Bees!
T&T employed a vast number of people, who looked to me to have come straight from the dole queue. The testing and vaccination centres near me were vacant warehouses, and are now back as vacant warehouses, I guess the landlord was grateful for a couple of years worth of rent.
If the money had all gone to "cronies" then it would have made no difference to GDP. The GDP boost shows it flowing through the economy.

If it was so vital to cut back a costly "coffers" service, WHY did they hand out contracts to their mates & circle of friends with zero experience?
Farcical, grubby political corruption, but no money coming back for what should have been an ethical service to the citizens of this country, not profiteering rackets FFS.

Be careful where you get your news from. A lot of the stories that I see repeated constantly do not stand up to scrutiny:
It's common knowledge that contracts given by mp's to mates with no previous experience stinsy started with texts because they were in that circle.
Part of the costly fubar that is.
