Yep, that’s the Cunning Stunt.
When I was a little more naïve, I used to think that politicians had to be bastions of probity, blessed with absolute integrity and sacrificing their individual needs to a career of service to the country.
Ho hum
I read somewhere a hypothetical political system where the politician's sat 4 years. At the beginning of their term all their wealth was liquidated. If the country was in a better position after their term, they would get it back. If not they lost it...
I'd think you have to force them at gun point to run for office.
I always use the mantra of "pick the least worse" when voting.
That phrase ought be in the polls as the initial question regarding the candidacy, might cut through some of the BS

many people find themselves as a round pin in a square hole and not cut out for a particular job but the management cannot get rid of them and allow someone more suitable to take their place. It is impossible nearly to get rid of someone who is not suitable for the job at all levels. This is the other side of the coin of modern industrial relations. Impossible to get rid of a bad teacher in less than a year much easier to give them a glowing recommendation and move them on and let them create havoc somewhere else.
As for the topic -easy to be wise after the event- particularly with poor memory and no responsibility at the time. When on a war footing,as indeed covid was, then cost is irrelevant, just finding someone to do whats needed is difficult enough.
Understood ken, but difference though between useable PPE & substandard PPE.
Will any of it make it out to the third world where something is better than nothing (ie make a list, ask them what would be useful considering the risks that are taken in hospitals without mattresses, electricity, refrigeration etc) ..& Stick it on a govt flight out to Rwanda (for example for onward transportation)
