Personally I think we should ignore the politicians and listen to the scientists engineers and doctors - at least these professionals have formal qualifications and usually decades of experience in their specific disciplines.
As already noted the experts appeared to be rolled out as scapegoats for when things went wrong/ badly, they were never going to be credited with success but always going to be damned for failures.

The poiticians always say that scientists, engineers, medics etc. are there to advise, but politicians are there to make the decisions.
As such it must be the politicians who made the decisions and they have to accept the responsibility of doing so.

Indeed. It wasn't medical staff and scientists that requested that the pandemic planning response organisation be effectively shut down and disbanded from 2010 onwards, it was Cameron's government that ordered that it be shut down in order to save money. At the time lots of knowledgeable people argued that it was misguided to do this, but the government went ahead anyway. We saw the outcome of that in 2020, all the old stocks of medical supplies and PPE that had been put aside when the pandemic planning team was still together were out of date and couldn't be used. The result was a panic to buy more from China at massively inflated prices, and then we found that much of this, too, was unsafe for staff and patients to use.Countrypaul wrote: ↑Thu Aug 25, 2022 10:48 pm The poiticians always say that scientists, engineers, medics etc. are there to advise, but politicians are there to make the decisions.

You only need to see how much support completely mad lunatics like Farage got to see that there really are large numbers of swivel eyed loons amongst the voting population. Newspapers like the Mail rely on those people for their income . . .spread-tee wrote: ↑Fri Aug 26, 2022 9:28 amHe's ticked a few Gus, but Truss has said tax cuts enough to convince the swivel eyed loons that get to vote, thus she will be the next primonster ffs
