Trailcam
Trailcam
SWMBO pointed out a spot down bottom of garden where we think a badger has turned a large composting pile of branches etc into a set. We are cool with our neighbour but I'd like to see who's living there. Any recommendations for a night vision trail cam? Doesn't have to be fancy as this is likely its one function for us. Excited!

Re: Trailcam
I have one, they are all low res, generic, chinese schmutter & can chew through batteries.
However, just like your digital thermal camera (you barsteward, ..i'm jealous) have a place in lofts for "monitoring conditions" wildlife, temporary security additions..
Better IF you can buy a long cable & hook it up to a proper power source because there is no telling how efficient or otherwise the power drain will be until way down the road.
If you want to borrow one on a long term loan to see whats up i'm happy to box mine up for use?
But the question remains...wot no turkish bionic night-vision Joe?
In terms of batteries you could be looking at 8 AA duracell power pished away with little recourse, thus a cable makes you hate them less at the lower end of the scale, ..albeit defying the whole point of the trail cam en route.
Works better than our tesla sentry cam ..sad but true

I bought my wife one of these "GardePro A3S Wildlife Camera" for Christmas 2021, they are currently on Amazon for £69.99 (£30 cheaper!).
Have seen a badger a few times, also hedgehog, a few different cats and many mice.

Re: Trailcam
No 1 Son gave us a CamPark T20 trail camera a good few Christmases ago... Only used intermittently but the 4 Duracell industrial batteries in it still seem OK and it has done what was hoped for.

Re: Trailcam
Trailcam - pah.
We’ve had them since we moved here - don’t bother us. Drive one of our neighbours mad as they dig up so much.
They do dig for, I presume, Leatherjackets etc, but it’s superficial and the lawn is ‘wild’ anyway.
A note of caution, they have caused serious structural damage to some properties in town, undermining foundations.
We have been woken a few times when they’ve got frisky below the bedroom window or gone for a swim in the pond.
We’ve had a trail camera and never seen them on it - you know they’re there. ]
