Thanks Moxi, I'm maybe a couple of hundred quid in here. and fully mobile. Massive pleasure and boosted thought down other paths, awareness would be a good word? Not everyone has 5 to 10 grand but playing about with these smaller systems might migrate into reducing grid count?

Nothing so grand, hit the port, turn NE and stop close to the Belgian/French border. Kick back on a nice campsite, have a look around and see what SWMBO fancies.

If you've never seen the accelerated pace of climate change whilst having a mountain lunch to the sight of glacial collapse, I'd recommend the experience, woke my daughter & wife up to my hippie ideals over the years.

1. chair lift (return) from car park ..where folk also camp 😉. 5 minute ride to chalet du glacier des Bossons.

https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_ ... Alpes.html

When the sun warms up this is when the big pieces break, creak & cascade down, ...so sit nearer the edge for a decent view.

2, the other side, & the other cafe (near the tunnel through to Italy) which is where the glacial finds tend to come out, though cabane du cerro may have changed altogether as a cafe stop, ..it now seems to do yoga!? ..but if it is the same place it is far easier access to walk on the glacier run off ice without the crazy climb, sedate & accessible compared to the nicer other route that beyond the cafe requires a 3 hour (worthwhile) forest climb to the tea house, ...but be content with merely visiting the two mentioned unless you like busting a gut.

Famous especially for this..

Very kind Gus, thank you. For this possible trip I am very much a casual stroll through a town guy, hoping for a lightly picked over Brocante along with a cafe square for a coffee and people watch. I love to sit and hear the flow of conversation around me. So stereotypical! I'll take you up on the Alps knowledge maybe next year when we return to Italy?

It's Bayram here at the end of rammadan and now celebrating eid Al fitr. Happy days! 😊

Oh it is all stroll, because of the lift (on the r/h/s of bossons glacier, the 3 man chair lift is about 15 euro return day trip & the cafe bar is 50 metres shallow slope away.

All in all it's 2-3 km from town centre of chamonix centre itself which is filled with people watching cafes so no stress required, it's what the wife does whilst Izzy & I limp & puff up mountains.

This year is the centenary of the 1st winter olympics so should have quite a lot going on summer season.

Great italian food without having to use the horrible tunnel (if you are not on the main square)

I hope to get back out this summer, lot of folk to catch up with since covid.

I have one out of three 60,000mAh batteries playing up a little. It's throttling back the PV to 0.3A at 83% soc. Whereas my 27,000mAh brick is taking 1.5A same panel, same cable.

Hooked the offending unit up to discharge into the other two battery packs to see if it will then take more of a charge onboard later. Just goes to show that you never, know what you'll get down the road!

Started with 83% feeding into a 98% & 94% charged units. Worst case I'll flatten the lagging unit over the next while and charge from there. It is currently discharging two ports at 2.1A each so if it comes to it a bit of unexpected early capacity loss is a surprise but not a showstopper. :D

I've got a map that's about 130 years old, at a big scale (1:10000 iirc), that covers the Bossons glacier.

Some day is like to go back to Chamonix and and compare the map of the glacier with what is there now (although I'm sure it would be a pretty depressing exercise).

Could be that the S.O.C. is calculated and not actual. Might be that the device has a "Coulomb Counter", basically it counts charge in and it counts charge out again. Never going to be 100% accurate and it will drift over time - if not calibrated spot on they can drift quick quickly after just a few cycles. Usually a complete charge/discharge cycle will "reset" or "re-calibrate" the counter. I suspect the BMS in the unit was throttling back based on cell voltage rather than S.O.C. which it should do to protect the cells - which is kind of proven by the fact that it was charging thepacks with a supposedly higher state of charge.

So yes try a complete charge discharge cycle, discharge until it cutes off and charge until "it canna tek no more captain". Hopefully it will sort it.

Cerac crashing is depressing, but i am / was drawn back several times per year to see it.
Tne fact that a glacuer filled the park just a few feet back from the town centre (near the casino) speaks mounds.

Get to the lift for opening, quick breakfast at the cafe 50 metres left of it..
5 litres water, woodland trail is still 30c+
Do not give up at the first "turn" view of the glacier ..because thats merely a taster... get to the chalet cafe & you are at a proper entry point regardless of whether you sit for hours or plan further. ..all this in regular good boots & t-shirt hat & sunnies in late spring-summer.

Remember, cheapest time to go to cham on a budget is seasonal switch over (a few shops have a week off or reduce hours, not many, its just the annual railtrack maintenance that screws up "exploration" up & down the valley, but your free transport pass is still useable.

Maeva aparments is cheap if not going on your own, basic but convenient get an upper floor not in the eaves (shower height space takes a hit) Cheap eats + best bars just 200 feet away actoss the burn.

Afternon at cafe green bar is where the worlds parapent folk often go, chilled folk, opposite is beer o clock (trust me) rfid self serve beer bar ..quiet end of town on the main strip.

If flying in dont forget to look at BA, can be as cheap rounded up as bucket flights to geneva, more room, nicer seats, more luggage allowance if needed.
End of may is cheap season, best of all weathers, high up snow still present.

If you have never puffed your way up bossons by the track (take the chair, 5 litres water, then walk) it is a must, to appreciate it.

Whilst easier access is on the other side, the Cerac crashing is depressing, but i am / was drawn back several times per year to see it.
