I've been watching Escape to Rural France (a Youtube channel) for a few years, the guy, Dan Preston, is rebuilding a burned out French Chateau, which was destroyed by fire in about 1980, and left to the elements since (till about 2022), and he's been putting in some rockwool insulation. He started with not much money, no electricity, no water, and a wheelbarrow and a spade, and on the way he got a couple of solar panels, an ecoflow battery or 3, and other cool stuff like his own wood mill, and a log burner for the yurt that he installed in the garden.

in other news, for anyone interested, I've set up a Facebook group called The Green Living Forum, for the people off there who want to keep in touch - when the old forum closes, but also for anyone interested in green, eco, environmental stuff really, so if anyone here is interested, send me a pm with your email address and I can send you an invite.
