I'm sure i've mentioned this in the past, sometimes I used to get a lift down the road to our other work buildings in our friendly skip collecters vehicle or our Business post collectors lorry & seeing them work through the gears was enlightenment indeed.
Forgot that till a few years ago when I was dragged through the court by a certain EON twats for their lies as to assaulting (not a hair touched) their polish a-holes meter reader on our property for next doors meter (nb this pole, not all poles) & the guy I was sat next to was a big rig lorry driver on a driving charge, it is hard work for sure & I look at roundabouts in a completely different & more deferential light.
(we had 6 hours to chat before we were thrown in front of a complete tosser of a court judge or whatever he thought he was)
I look forward to E-lorries simplifying things as much as possible.
If EV is the way it's going why are Automatic driving lessons still more expensive?

A Lorry I had was best driven without using the clutch when going down the gears. If you didn't get it right though you would have to come to a full stop.
Even if you'd tried with the clutch you'd still have had to stop and that was more likely than without using it!! It was just the design of the gearbox not a fault. Many couldn't drive it at all.

Maybe, on average, it takes someone less time to pass in an auto so to cover admin costs, there's a higher hourly rate. Seems unlikely...
Either way, get the manual and look at it as free tuition. She gets to learn about the mechanics of a manual system and how to operate it for less cost than not learning it. Might help with mechanical sympathy too

Yeah, i've never come to a solid conclusion about how the charges stack, bit late now, that's why I have the mini cooper on the drive for "if" she passes this week, she can carry on learning at a "dad" controlled pace.
SO today weather is nice, time to change a few more bulbs to led (don't want unnecessary stress on the battery) ...I kack-handedly pushed the interior roof light bulb holder into the chassis a few months ago & still haven't got a clue as to what blob of plastic its meant to be (none of mine fit) loathe to pay mini prices!
Halogen boot light has got to go
energy waster!
Ditto the number plate bulbs, ..why half arsedly fit a car out with mid pillar led lighting & ignore the rest? ...tsk!
I'm still looking for an 2008 r56 hatch parcel shelf if anyone is getting rid of one.

Re: If EV is the way it's going why are Automatic driving lessons still more expensive?
I didn't know there was a cost difference, but purely a guess from me, would be that less auto cars are available for lessons since the majority of folk currently learn in a manual, maybe that will change.
There is a BEV driving instructor somewhere around here, since myself and Wifey have seen an ID3 in learner livery several times. Just one house further up the hill from us is a cross roads, with a nasty left turn with poor visibility, so takes great clutch control from stationary to pull up hill and turn left, so quite popular with driving instructors as their clients get better ........ but with a BEV, piece of cake.
I also seem to remember hearing that Hyundai (I think) was making a fake manual version of one of their BEV's so that learners could get a full licence if they passed their test driving it, but I don't think that was in a UK context, so not sure which country, possibly S. Korea(?), so it would have a fake gearstick and react to speeds, bit like rising rpms in each gear, necessitating a gear change.
And unrelated (I believe) we have the dafter than a sack full of monkeys idea (patent) from Toyota for BEV's to have a fake gearstick and fake clutch pedal, so you can still pretend to be driving a manual. More likely it's an attempt to spoil the BEV experience as part of their continued anti-BEV campaign.

Yes officer I hit the pedestrian because I was going through the gears of my fake gearstick & fake clutch so didn't momentarily have my eyes on the road, ..only for a moment though, because I can really grind through the gates fast innit!
