Spaghetti
Re: Spaghetti
A strong argument to shop around in Angleand? Would not want to take a 100% hit on my wheat products if I could avoid it?marshman wrote: ↑Thu Aug 18, 2022 8:40 pmJust been to my local Sainsbury's (just a local one so not that big, but it is a lot closer than any other supermarket so that is where we shop) and as I was passing looked at the Spaghetti. Their basics range - now called Hubbards was 46p for a 1kg pack, I double checked ! They had plenty in stock. I just checked their website same price and they claim an Aldi pricematch so I guess it is 46p/kg in Aldi as well, so 2p cheaper than Turkeyland !Joeboy wrote: ↑Thu Aug 18, 2022 4:15 pm Down the supermarket this morning sticking a few supplies by for the October eye recovery. Guess what I'm doing tomorrow. Obviously Erdoğan grain shipment brokering worked.
Haven't a clue as to the quality/taste though.

Re: Spaghetti
well . while some concentrate on the kg price of Pasta , i am dreaming of a candlelight dinner
Am sure she is not worth that amount to get some pasta for an hilarious price of say 1 GBP per KG , so i should cancel that date , because the pasta , that would make a dinner for four to eight people . is way overpriced , better off to compare prices at Lidl, Aldi,Tesco and co and get the best Deal then at SuperValue
Lets talk then about the war in Europe and discuss prices and how dramatic that all is that we have to pay a Pence more ...
Sorry that is not a thread for me , nor a point to make on a candlelight dinner that my 100 gramm spagetti costed me only 5 cents worth ! It does not matter too much what the price is , what matters is what we achieve with it

To quote I think Oscar Wilde "It is materialistic to know the price of everything and the value of nothing! ....
Or something like that!
For too long the affluent westerners have had food and energy way, way too cheap. Because it has been so cheap most people don't value it and waste far, far too much.
Re: Spaghetti
That's a decent plate of pasta you made there billi, what time will we come round? Each to their own...billi wrote: ↑Thu Aug 18, 2022 11:04 pm well . while some concentrate on the kg price of Pasta , i am dreaming of a candlelight dinner

Go for it on the war in Europe, talk about it. Prices matter to me and neither a playwright, a Russian madman nor vague generalised statements on 'The West' and food costs therein negate a 100%+ difference in a basic foodstuff which is a staple for many people. Can summarise with 'shop around'.
Gotta say billi, you seem to be a fan of broad sweeping generalisation with an inflammatory overtone and sarcastic undertone. It's getting boring. Call that a friendly hint.

Re: Spaghetti
Well , i might not be so intelligent like you, to link spaghetti prices to an European war, that we are in , to illustrate how bad that situation is .Gotta say billi, you seem to be a fan of broad sweeping generalisation with an inflammatory overtone and sarcastic undertone. It's getting boring. Call that a friendly hint.
But what bores me since decades is that "tunnel vision" on comparing prices of goods especially food , as it is well known that food products are well under-priced
I wish i had a shop near me where i can pay more , but to a fair price , instead of feeling good that i found the best bargain and buy then double that amount i need in a country were the average wage of people living there , is way below to our standards
As you mentioned boring , i telly you what i find boring and that is the fact that some just do not want to see the context of a bigger but real picture , so keep on in just reading the price label
Enough said about overtone and undertone
Re: Spaghetti
I have no idea how intelligent you are, there are many postal services that will deliver all the fair-trade goods you need. Isolation or distance shouldn't be an issue. Grow all you can, we do.billi wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 10:41 amWell , i might not be so intelligent like you, to link spaghetti prices to an European war, that we are in , to illustrate how bad that situation is .Gotta say billi, you seem to be a fan of broad sweeping generalisation with an inflammatory overtone and sarcastic undertone. Re: Spaghetti
In fairness, that's comparible to Aldi for Spaghetti. Their Penne has gone up form 29p to 32p though.Joeboy wrote: ↑Thu Aug 18, 2022 4:15 pm Down the supermarket this morning sticking a few supplies by for the October eye recovery. Guess what I'm doing tomorrow. Obviously Erdoğan grain shipment brokering worked.
Re: Spaghetti
That's good to know. I am planning some mighty haggis broths over the Winter. Will be cooked on the WBS slowly across the day and I'll be wearing my new (second hand) cable knit lambswool jumper in tribute to Tom Good, my absolute hero! I am bringing a load of lentils back from Turkey as well as some 'special' small pasta and tiny tortellini not seen in the UK. I'll also be hotfooting it to Aldi, cheers Smeagal!smegal wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 11:19 amIn fairness, that's comparible to Aldi for Spaghetti.
