Perceived conditions

If there is a foul wind a blowin' then drop by for a chat - about coconuts of anything else off topic.

Unusual precipitation here... or maybe I just haven't noticed it before:
Yesterday the frost disappeared off the roofs, so the air temperature must have got above zero. Today we have thin freezing fog with frozen very fine droplets falling out of it, almost like talcum powder. No cloud cover if you look upwards, but misty looking horizontally. You can feel the droplets hitting your face a bit like very cold drizzle and the ground and roofs are covered with the very white fine powder, but you can't really call it snow!

Might not be so unusual, but for some reason I don't remember thinking about it before...
2.0 kW/4.62 MWh pa in Ripples, 4.5 kWp W-facing pv, 9.5 kWh batt
30 solar thermal tubes, 2MWh pa in Stockport, plus Congleton and Kinlochbervie Hydros,
Most travel by bike, walking or bus/train. Veg, fruit - and Bees!

Feels like back in the day working Southern Norway here.

Been out dropping off furniture in the van. Took my grab bag with an extra jacket, scarf, bunnet & gloves. Different rules apply at the moment. Yesterday we were crunching through the snow layer, today it bears our full weight. :o

Below a photo of our local Ben.

Road snow gone (tyres, logically)
Frost & snow that settled elsewhere has remained in situ
Can but see what the next few days bring, however it has been forecast as staying -1 / -2 for a few more cycles.

I'm not sure we will get much over the next few days despite the forecast sunshine.

Weird that one side of my house is producing fine (for December), the solar panels are clear, but the other side is completely iced up.
Having said that it's been a cracking December so far, already 30kWh generated out of the expected 45 for the whole month :D

Just noticed that you are up in the highlands - we've just got back from a beautiful trip up to Skye over the weekend. It does look as if the East side is being hit rather harder with the cold and 'weather'

Out driving at 4am today, looks like the thaw has started. Stopped at a piece of normal two lane B road. Bad drifting through the night. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has absolutely passed the test, very glad to.have chosen the AWD version 'just in case'. :o :)

JB is there some form of Torque control to stop the car slipping on the icy snow or is it all down to pedal control to limit the power laid down?

I expect the low centre of gravity and even weight distribution helps quite a bit too.

I have no idea! :) Engage snow mode which brings on both motor's at reduced power and drive as if there is an uncooked egg in its shell between sole of boot and throttle pedal. The car did not put a wheel wrong and that's a week of driving Aberdeenshire B Roads all the way down to -11 and some bad ungritted conditions too.Ive been taking my son to work as it was quickly out of 1ltr Corsa territory here! Highly recommended EV just got better. :D
