I bet antivirals (or just doctors appointments and soothing creams) would have cost a lot more than a jab - and would have prevented her suffering as well. She has been OK since paying for it herself...
I agree, I was completely unaware that there was either a shingles vaccine, or a cut-off age of 70, until the practice nurse asked if I wanted the jab a couple of weeks ago. It seems to be one of those things that is not well-publicised at all. Had I known there was such a vaccination available, then even if I'd had to pop into Boots and pay for it, I'd have done so. Quite why it's both not well publicised, and only offered to over 70's, I don't know, as I gather it's an extremely unpleasant and painful disease to contract in later life.

And back on the outbreak, I was watching Denys daveydov & is daily ukraine war update, seems there has been a leak of info from china, that 35 million people have it, ..he said. "daily" which I'm sceptical of till I read more elsewhere, some more grainy video of deserted postal sorting facilities, & more, ..which if you read into things is folk dropping like winter flies, or staying away forced or otherwise ..all unclear for now.

And hasn't it ramped up in just a week out there!?
Worst case estimates by april in china for deaths wiith the additional 3 variants found & based on current chaos is for in excess of 1.2 million dead by early april over there, funeral vehicles backed up like the M25 queuing for cremation slots.

On chinese social media it is being referred to as "the cold" ..complacency via govt approved wording.
(a cold that blocks roads with the sheer weight of the dead, well fancy that eh)

What stock changes have occurred within the nhs since "it all went away" !? ..clearly no bonded stock of oxygen cylinders, however ambulance crews ( presumably when not conserving it by striking, have been told to use it carefully (selectively then)
People fleeing china for some days, no cobra meeting to sort out entry requirements, ..

& visitors to devon / cornwall for new year, asked to bring a medical kit 😳
So, lessons learnt?

Might be worth getting on your local supermarket covid delivery list now via the managers office before all the slots go again for some of you, (shielders et al), or at least top o the yet to be reinstated list / plan!

May be worth a watch, emphasis on white blood cell depletion& the immunoglobulin injections, & short supply, raiding global stock (lab centrifuge spun stock) ..not sure if viable as freeze dried, so assume it is via an i.v infusion.
