It'll feel like summer!
One thing this house doesn't cope with well is sudden changes like this. I've had to put far more heat than usual into the floor slab over the past week or so, so there is a risk I could overcook it and have too much heat stored right when the weather changes and we don't need it! I can see some careful guesswork will be needed to try and have just enough heat in the slab for tonight to keep things OK tomorrow, without there being too much for the much warmer weather coming on Sunday.

Last weekend in the frozen North of my folks local load it was solid ice when I left. I was panicking a bit as I knew there was some "slip" mode on the Tesla for starting off in snow and I did not know where the option in the menu was.

I started off anyway and its like the ice was not even there. I thought I'd have a bit of fun and blip the accelerator, its just drove at very low power, crawling along in full control with no perceptible wheelspin at all.

So I decided to floor it, which is usually not for the faint hearted.

Still the same. :D

Only drawback is the fun's gone and no handbrake for spinning it, which is probably a good thing at my age.

Got 1 mile into the next village and had to give up car couldn’t get up slight incline Golf EV, and I must have nearly shit myself 3or 4 times prior to this
Had to abandon it up a side street, looks like it’s parked
Couldn’t get traction.
Service earlier in the week advised 3.8mm tread on all tyres.
Walked back home and logged in remotely.

Photo of the water leak that's been pouring down our lane and forming an ever growing sheet of ice for the past week or more (taken this morning). A car slid down this sideways yesterday evening and we've just warned the postie not to try and get up there:

Kids will enjoy it, not so much adults.

Summer or winter tyres though?

Here in Surrey winter tyres would never pay but when it's wet and below 10C most northerners seem to find them better, especially on snow.

Probably when you've to get up at 4am and defrost the car before setting off for work would be my guess. :D

I experienced another ice related first in the EV this morning. I was driving down a not too dissimilar single track lane this morning with a few patches of sheet ice similar to the photo but smaller. I took my foot off the power and the aggressive regeneration caused a few short lockups before the car decided to control the regen to avoid a further lockup.

This was much worse than my previous experience of setting off on the ice.

I was wondering about if this would happen, do other EVs have similar traction control under regenerative braking?
This is why IC engined manual gearbox car drivers are advised to drive in the highest gear I guess.

Not having an EV I have only occasionally driven my daughter's Kona. She was most upset with me moving the paddle to a higher regeneration setting as she just likes to use the brakes. This despite my telling her that driving uses energy and braking wastes it.

With only 3.8mm of tread they wouldn't be classed as winter tyres regardless of what it says on the side over here. The law states minimum tread depth for winter tyres is 4mm. If you are involved in an accident when winter tyres are mandated and you don't have them then you are in a whole world of pain.
