Lens replacement surgery

Away up to the eye clinic in Aiyden on Thursday for a consultation on lens replacement surgery for me n SWMBO. Always been a spectoid, can't be bothered with it any more. Will report back on details later.

It is surgery so there is always a degree of risk involved. I would only have eye surgery when cataracts begin to make an appearance. Even with cataract surgery quite a number of patients are less than satisfied afterwards.

I would find out who is going to operate and how many successful operations of the same type he/she has carried out. You don’t want it to be his first attempt when he normally does appendices.

I started this one hoping to bring info to the over 50's crowd on something that will affect most of us. Not be slagged or doubts cast on my personal decisions. Your input and style on this is not appreciated.
Keep going though if that's yer bag....

You're taking it too personally, I suspect it's the voice of caution.
My wife has plastic lenses following cataracts, no problems so far 10 years in.
My younger brother and elder daughter had laser treatment to correct myopia, after 5 years they began to have problems, my brother died before it became a serious my daughter tries to avoid driving at night now.
I, otoh, have worn specs sin 15 and in my trade they proved useful protection I still wear them although I lost the sight in one eye last year.

Sorry for the single orb osm, thats a pisser. We know of the degradation in laser treatments. Seems unfair tbh.
A good number of our mates out here have went for lens replacement and all has went well. Same clinic. I would be a liar if I didnt say bricking it a little, hence the personal. He who dares Rodders!

Like Stan I would suggest a degree of caution, my MiL had private lens replacement surgery a few years ago and is now registered blind and dependent on daily help for a lot of things. Her mistake was to believe the hype from the private hospital she went to, as it turned out they were motivated more by taking her money than by giving her the best options for treatment. At the time she had mild cataracts and also had worn glasses for decades so to her it seemed to be a no-brainer to get both things fixed at the same time. She has been deeply regretting that decision for the past few years.

Stan has a point, when in the heart hospital trade my wife would recommend different specialist surgeons for different jobs to friends, family thru strangers needing surgery.
Same scenario, some were better than others, less cocksure, (not a-holes) & caring people versus ladder climbers & completely callous bitches.
We do the same with vets for our boxers / French bulldog if a dog is poorly we'd rather give it a day or two & nurse a dog along at home.rather than see some of the best who are a waste of time, or straight in to catch a get who grew up with the breed & knows em inside out.
Research & feel better as to justifying your purchases, we all do it ..something you cannot take back to the shop & exchange!? ..well, even more so.

We've got their top fella doing the work who has done two of my mates here.
One eye at a time with a month/6 weeks inbetween. It is an eye hospital/clinic so it's specialist. I am test run and if all ok, SWMBO next then son at Xmas time. Another three of my offshore mates have had it done and wax lyrical. All cautionary tales now appreciated.
I am having consultation and also hoping to have first eye done on Thursday. Will report back.
