Finally, the rains have come, even to SW London! It's not raining hard but it has been going for a few hours now.
I hope it's raining where you all are too?
Hard grounds are awful at absorbing water though so I hope we don't see flash flooding?

Probably best that it is not hard rain. Will give the ground a chance to absorb the water.

Still pretty well bone dry here apart from a few spots yesterday evening which had no effect. I have a bath of cooled water to syphon out and we're still carrying all the waste water from the kitchen.
Runner and climbing french beans are very disappointing, but the spuds are great as they have been the main recipients of the grey water.

We’ve had rain all morning - not much though. Same as AE - collecting all of the kitchen grey water. Also, Jerry-Rigged collection from the washing machine on Sunday.

Approx 25 gallons from two washes.

Just annoyed didn’t do it weeks ago.

See screenshot... We're in the middle of the dry bit, and even yesterday were at the very edge of a big area of light rain, so got nothing. At least it should stay dry for putting the clearer boards on the beehives this afternoon.

Still dry not & dark clouds here (started yesterday) but humidity is high, the local tip (stench from london & elsewhere) meant locals had a choice, Windows closed & 30c no stench / less of 27c with stench ..some choice.

Felt 2 drops of rain this a.m. none since but it's building up here in fens edge.

Caught several thousand bluebottles & housefly type vermin over 3 days hereabouts.
Rain, ..bring it.

3.15pm about 2 minute of light rain via passing thunderstorm, suns out first time today.

Guess what ! North Wales- soggy as ever!

Had a few light showers yesterday and today its been non stop steady drizzle and showers everything is well wetted and ground and fields are soaking it all up nicely with no run off - best sort of rain after a weeks dry spell (well a week for us anyway).

For the south and midlands the general consensus seems to be that we need more impounding reservoirs to catch the water before its run off to the sea . Trouble is offwat doesn't want to pass the cost of this new infrastructure to the customer and the private companies don't want to invest - Maggies model isnt looking so good anymore is it! - so no infrastructure, meanwhile the aging water distribution network continues to haemorrhage water to the ground like potable water isn't a scare and valuable resource! Again some of thats to do with balancing the costs to the companies and the on-cost to customers.

On the plus side we are pulling enough solar to run the house loads and slowly recharge the stack at around 0.5kWh.

I can't do much about bad political decisions but I can try to lighten my impact on the planet and my wallet

Settling tank? Or maybe toilet cisterns?

We only, on average, do one wash a week - just the two of us, minimal clothing (warm in the south ).

During the summer, would be easy to plan the wash around watering needs - we try and do the wash on forecast dry days (everything dried outside).

Be easy enough to decant washer effluent into a water butt for use over the next few days. Washer ‘drains’ on a North facing, sheltered wall, so any short term storage shouldn’t start growing stuff.
