Is it just me?

Tried my daughters Aldi lactose free s/skim milk (hot chocolate) & it tasted sweet, thought that was just the hot choc we were trialling
(nb if anyone is a "monin syrup" glutton, let me know found a good cheap web source)

As she went back to Plym today I tried the remainder in the fridge, it is definitely sweeter.
Looked on the ingredients list just in case, nothing.

So is it the lactose removal process that increases it or my taste buds up the swannee?

but why? Just why?
Unless you are really, medically-proved, lactose intolerant, why consume this fabricated stuff? Most people nowadays who think they are something-intolerant aren't really.
It seems to me that the more your foodstuff has been interfered with, the greater your digestive problems are likely to be.

Just cook food from real ingredients/ raw materials.

Daughter has gone back to university today, it will not keep as it was open already, therefore in the interest of not simply binning it, I chose to drink some.

& it tasted pretty good tbh.

"But why is it sweeter" remains the question.

After years of gut problems (from a baby) daughter deemed herself by her own hand "a bit lactose intolerent" so now opts for this or oat milk in general so she can have small amounts of milk product without too much painful payback.

Lactose is a dimer constituted of galactose and glucose. My understanding is that (at least some) milks have the lactose catalysed by a lactase enzyme. The subsequent products are then left so there is more glucose.

When a person then drinks it, the glucose triggers sweet taste receptors in the mouth to a greater extent than the lactose would have. Hence it tastes sweeter.

That makes sense, as a non sugar taker in drinks it is very noticeable compared to chocolate,sugar & sweetener scoffers in our home who think its just normal moo lactation inna carton.
