Despite many notices warning that death is quite dangerous, and death could be about to jump out at you, and falling iceburgs from the blades and other such dire warning there was no prohibition to going up to the turbines, just a kissing gate at the boundary, so with camera at the ready.........

Quite impressive up close.

It is Forss windfarm just west of Thurso, or one of them anyway, but no ratings on the substation other than 33KV switchgear inside. There are only 6 turbines at this location which look relatively small compared to another that I plan to visit in the next day or two. There isn't much wind here at the moment so most of the turbines aren't doing much, Mind you nor is Doomray just
around the corner

Excellent, the Forss windfarm is part of the "The Renewables Infrastructure Group (TRIG)", so I already own part of it.

They are Siemens 1.3 MW turbines.

Last thursday I wanted to get a closer up view than this, taken from the house about five miles distant.
Image

On finding a place to park this board was a pleasant surprise, it's nice not to be told to keep out all the time, good PR too.
Image

The approach path was fenced about 50M from the turbines, ho hum. But as I neared the top of the hil the fence ended and there was no barrier to approaching right up to any of the installation, guess who I met there!
Image

For scale my size eleven plate on the hold down bolts.
Image

Another one for scale, the pylon is about half the distance from me as the turbine.
Image

Looking up at the blades whizzing around is fairly hairy.
Image

Lots of sparkery for the techies.
Image

Well whaddya know? cool eh?

They are 2.5MW each, so same output as the Ripple Wind Turbine but they have a smaller rotor at 90m instead of 100m, so I presume its a windier location.

I don't own any of these.
