Best Pies Near You

Post by nowty »

I’m ut north England seeing my folks at the mo in Preston Lancashire. One of my favorite foods ut ere are potato and meat pies. Problem is we are down to the last only known decent independent pie shop left in the Preston area.

That looks excellent, sent my stomach clanging! The Aberdeen steak pie is outstanding, the closer to Torry the better. My mate Stevie the pieman over in Turkey, learnt a lot from his Granny in Glasgow, great too. Fancying a run South! Strangely enough, Stevie did spend a good portion of his adult life in Preston, a coincidence?

Cannot get decent scotch pies down here , so occasionally I simply have a pre cooked one from morrisons, the kiddo has inherited our love of pies, so much so that she often asked for one cold for her packed lunch from the age of about 8 😂 ..we succumbed when she had the long days travelling from school to pies as a regular thing, but as brampton pies had shut its big shop down (just the butchers original origin left) it is mostly "pukka" pies (which do at a push)

https://www.measuresbutchers.co.uk/abou ... g-pies.php

Sadly the Brampton butchers (hence the name) is way out of reach "just to get a pie" haven't had one in years. (they went big, took on a dedicated pie & meat shop in Huntingdon town but ended up franchising it (i think) ..at that point the busy shop dropped off & changes were obvious with not as much care, ..shop died on its backside sadly.
I need to get the instantpot out & make some to freeze.

Wife can make the pastry & we can batch test the airfryer ..or horror of horrors turn on the oven!

Wife has both cold hands & pastry rolling patience, essential if making puff variety.
I boil like a furnace, so pastry is something that ends in tears for me! 😑
