Good work nudging conscience of big corp, so a reminder if you haven't checked out what's current for a while.
Just signed the AXA investment "divest fossil fuels" (every little bit helps)
Remembered to look and click a few logical ones (take a look some may appear to your views)

Although I get a few emails I do spend a bit of time periodically hitting "sign" periodically, remember to fill the "don't keep me informed how this campaign go's" otherwise it gets a bit much.

NB same email is fine for alternate names (family members with same views, ..well you raised em)

Yup, I signed that big corp petition upon viewing also.
If anyone else is as incensed as I am by the new TAX to be bestowed upon us all, even if signed up to renewables only, then please consider adding to the petition from Sum of us on the very topic. It's getting close to the 100k so would be good to get it over the line!

What is the perspective here?

My understanding:
  • Nuclear is a key part of a zero-carbon future.
  • Our existing nuclear is coming to the end of its lifespan.
  • The failure of successive governments over the last few decades to enable new nuclear construction has resulted in our current reliance on FF gas for electricity generation.
  • How do you propose nuclear be funded if not through electricity bills?

Renewables in their current form still need some form of generation to take over when the weather isn’t suitable. So although you may be signed up to 100% renewable that is all smokes and mirrors. We have two options if their is no renewable generation and that is have the smart meter disconnect the house or use gas/nuclear whatever. That needs paying for somehow. It’s whether that is a flat charge or a per use charge then. How are the mini reactors being paid for? I’ve heard nothing about that.

I have been out today so have only just caught the budget headlines... what takes my breath away is that I didn't hear a single mention of green investment, or skewing anything towards renewables, or reduction in energy consumption, or transport or housing energy efficiency. Energy storage? what is that?
Maybe I'm in a time-warp hearing last year's (decade's?) news, or the news from a decade's time when it will all have been sorted.
In fact this https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-59063672 says the freeze on fuel duty will be continued. The hedge fund managers, billionaires and oligarchs really don't care one iota (to put it politely) do they?

In short.
Massively over budget & late to the party as standard for this technology implementation.

Reliability (lack of) has been a big factor adding to the mix of contempt for nuclear power industry.

UK Land contamination, plenty of that
UK Water contamination ..ditto.
UK Environmental concerns? ..yup!

Storage of waste material is neither simple nor cheap, & bearing in mind past sea disposal with rusting barrels a problem that no-one wants to touch, nor resolve the industry has proven it plays fast & loose. ..ignorance is best it seems.

Fukishima, ..it's costing us investors too much, we wish to dump contaminants in the sea & be done with it.
Fukishima ..Land issues, displaced populace, etc.

Fukishima, 10 years on Tepco pleading profits before environment.

& so on, thus my thumbs down & signature inclusion.

No thanks.

\Agreed it's a joke, nothing green at all, and an air passenger duty cut for domestic flights, that'll send a good message in the run up to COP out 26.

How much did long haul flights get taxed?

I didn't hear any of it either & info seems somewhat scant.
Pub trade gets aid too late.
No environmental incentive to engage folk to drive to holiday destinations by some form of eu wide partnership scheme, just flight busines as usual, very sad as these are the sort of adjustments we need the populace to engage with in ev's, encouraging much needed 2 way tourist traffic & knocking down on flight habits, nice timing for the 500,000+ cars within the newly expanded London ulez / congestion zone to soften the blow of changing over ice vehicles to BEV's

Was "greening up" simply on hold for puffed chest opportunities at COP (out)?
