Colin's Daily

Hi All,

I've just returned to Shenzhen from a business trip to Germany — and I have to say, the experience really opened my mind.

One thing that stood out to me was the cultural differences, especially around daily routines. For example, it seems there's no fixed time for lunch or dinner in Germany — maybe it's because of the long hours of sunshine?

This got me thinking — I’d like to start sharing some of my daily life here on the forum, almost like a journal.
Through this:

I can practice my English writing

I can also share some cultural differences and show a bit of what daily life in China looks like

However, I’m not sure if this kind of post is appropriate for the forum. That’s why I’d really appreciate hearing your thoughts first.

If it’s okay, I’d like to start posting from tomorrow. But if it doesn’t fit the forum theme, I completely understand and will respect that.

I’d love to hear from at least 10 members before moving forward.
Thanks a lot for your support!

Hi Colin
Sounds like a good idea to me - China almost feels like a different universe to what we're all used to here in the UK/Europe!

I would be interested to read your blog Colin, it’s always beneficial to see life through other folk’s experiences as it helps to keep us grounded and considerate. If no one else objects I think it would be very interesting.

Go for it Colin.

Also, would it be OK for us to ask some China specific questions? Not trying to catch you out, and of course they will just be your opinion.

For instance, the impression I'm getting, is that China is embracing renewables, and EV's. It appears that oil and coal consumption may have peaked. Can we trust those early estimates, are folk in general in China open to the change, etc etc. I feel that China's size (population, and industry / emissions) is so crucial to environmental progress going forward, that I'd like to know more, please.

So long of course as you don't mind, and there is no possible way of getting into trouble, be it for you in China, or forum related. :xx:

I too am interested Colin.

I'm an F1 fan. When F1 returned to China post-COVID many of those who traveled from Europe were suprised to find China to be cleaner, more bustling, and more prosperous than both the Europe they'd traveld from and the China they'd visited pre-COVID.

We really don't have much info about China in our media.

Additionally, I'd be interested in what you thought about Germany. Were you in Stuttgart? That is in Baden-Württemberg which is characterised by other Germans as being where where the "worker ant" Germans live. It is more industrial than neighbouring Bavaria, where the stereotype is much more: beer-drinking, meat-eating, and fun-loving.
