Has got a lot better of late.
Both units I got on the cheap through vipon (50% savings, delivered next day via amazon) have solid, glass framed, mono cells, not the ratty "stick on solar£ (which TBH on my mpow solar PIR wall lights have been excellent even in lousy angles & lowest seasons combined!
Feel that whilst they may not be "hikvision quality" solar cctv has got where it needs to be.
Picked up a pan & tilt with all the usual gubbins, 15400mAh li-ion 18650 battery pack & 5 watt solar panel for £65.00 for keeping an eye on things, plus a £30 same brand same app fixed position cam for out the back.
The pan & tilt can oversee the drive, cul de sac & a bit more, so pretty happy not to be drilling holes & routing cables.
If I had a long garden / stable nearby i'd be looking at the tech from right about now.

Not fitted either yet, just connected them inside & walked for some range / insulation testing.
but can add link to the VPZ unit (the other deal elapsed)
If of interest for a punt @£65 join vipon & grab the coupon.

As it is a "generic" product there's a lot of video out there to give you an idea. (I did have some youtube video but cannot find it now, it was from abroad with a guy hooking it up on his house & viewing his street, car number plates etc. (will keep looking)
Mines more deterrent with some use rather than critical evidence, enough to get outside basics logged.
TBH you are paying for the solar & batteries, a similar unit is 28 quid via amazon (same brand, same 3.6mm lense, different led configuration).
However I don't want to drill electrical feeds.

I'm not very good with the concept of mixing wifi and CCTV. Too easy to block or intercept. CCTV cameras should be provided with wired connection IMO.

I agree with you stinsy, however deterrent is in part visbility, this suits a simple partial fix for me, a lot of the frontage is covered by my neighbour (the nice one) I have an internal camera & am hoping the ante, there is now a wired one overlooking the back & down the side from our garage, & now a doorbell video.
Never wanted to have to do this but... "arseholes"
