I'd do both of course! Gotta weigh up the 25 year hasslefree side of it. Awfully tempting.Moxi wrote: ↑Sat Mar 19, 2022 10:46 am Tinbum I’m thinking exactly the same thing do I do solar in roof on the annex next door circa 7k for a 2.4kWp or do I buy mum n dad some more WT 2 units ??
They’re in their seventies and I can always move all their heating and cooking over to electric as they have space for a HWT in the annexe whereas we don’t in the cottage.
Currently bought them the standard 998 units ( whatever the number was for average usage ) what would others do in my shoes knowing it’s my decision ultimately?

Re: Part ownership of a Wind Turbine, fancy it?
don't batteries (any battery?) give a lower rate of VAT on the whole job?
I might accept the smallest one on offer, then get another sparky to swap it out and fit a bank of something I wanted. Sell the unwanted one on? I suppose you would have to make sure that the control gear was compatible with what you wanted to fit later.
I found that my possible firm politely refused to fit anythng chinese, it was a Tesla or nothing!

Re: Part ownership of a Wind Turbine, fancy it?
I have now fixed my Octopus contract for 12 months to align to the WT1 power purchase agreement with cheap rate at 7.5p / kWh, therefore even my average rate aint going to be much over 8p / kWh. Therefore as my rebate will be 9.5p / kWh over the same timeframe, for me it really is like a large virtual battery.
Charge up slowly for the next 6 months and then discharge it from Oct to March to supplement the higher winter time wind generation. All I need to do is make my own virtual battery dashboard which will take my Octopus account credit and convert it to kWh's left.
Might even add it to my sig, Ripple virtual battery level - xxx kWh
Oh yes and change my direct debit to nothing, cos by the time the virtual battery is empty, WT2 will come on stream and BOOM.

Re: Part ownership of a Wind Turbine, fancy it?
Ripple have confirmed it is net of local generation, i.e. it is grid import.
But no matter how low of a user you are, as long as you buy 6999 kWh worth or less no evidence is needed.
Example, my father has circa 300% of his usage in WT1.

Re: Part ownership of a Wind Turbine, fancy it?
Is the investment that worthwhile, with a saving of £300 ish a year
I’m genuinely interested but SWMBO doesn’t see the investment deal like the original FIT deal.
