Energy prices at rapid chargers

#1

Post by Andy »

I just had an email from Swarco saying that a large swathe of rapid chargers where going to be 49p per kWh. They were not passing full costs of energy on to consumers.

Does anyone have an idea what businesses are paying for electricity now? They don't appear to be protected by the price cap. Its now the same cost per mile as a 50mpg diesel car which isn't going to help people who don't have a drive way transition to electric cars :(

The rapid chargers are for most people only used on rare long journeys. Eg family holiday to Cornwall. And just like how an Ice cream costs way more on holiday than it does at home, BEV charging does too.

Wait till you see how much a sandwich is at a MSA!

Lidl round the corner from me is 25p/kWh (up from 24p a few months back) which is good value for those without access to home charging.

3x 380W JA Solar panels (1.14kWp)
5x 2.4kWh Pylontech batteries (12kWh)
LuxPower inverter/charger

(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)

I wonder if Gridserve's design of running their chargers from solar farms with battery buffers will insulate them from rising wholesale costs, or if they've managed to roll out a lot more chargers than solar farms with the electric highway takeover, so will have to put up DC charger costs like everyone else? It certainly looks like an even smarter approach now than it did 18 months ago.

Gridserve now charge 39p for their 69kW charegers, ie most of their ex ecotricity fleet and 45p for their upto 350kW chargers eg Rugby.

However their electric forecourt at Braintree remains 39p because of the nearby solar farm.
