Looks like a couple of gentle breeze days upcoming on site at Graig Fatha so I feel confident saying that in the first month of operation bearing in mind that the slow spool up is in the mix along with the 500hr checks/service/shutdown AND the DNO repeatedly sending a signal to the turbine to slow down we (that's SWMBO & Me) generated 0.43MWh of clean wind power!

Our predicted generation for the year is 6,972kWh at GF, so that's a little over 6% of annual prediction generated in a month. A month when the wind is slowing down and all the start up teething problems. We are more than happy with that, Ripple faltered in their comms a little at the start but seem to be getting up to speed on that quite well and there are mods in the pipeline for dashboard and automation so that's all excellent.

I love the idea that those electrons generated are gone, instantly used in the surrounding villages at site. A small 2 fingers to Putin if you will.

As previously discussed, the 9.5p per kWh should be showing up in the coming weeks, a little over £40, 0.88495% roi to be precise. :)

It's looking good, I enjoyed the ITV segment last night. A sadness that they could not mention Kirkhill.. No matter, at least the idea of it was newsworthy. :D

Had a dream a couple of nights back and in it I had this cool 3d app showing live generation and moving parts on each of my land based and offshore wind turbines, was just waiting for the hydroturbine display to go live in the dream, was epic! :D

Ripple update.

Kirk Hill update: pre-construction phase is well underway

14/04/2022

Kirk Hill's share offer will close midnight 3rd May. Due to a recent surge in new member interest and in conjunction with corporate and bank funding, we are on track for the purchase to complete on time. We strongly advise members who plan to increase their ownership to do so quickly to avoid disappointment.

We are well underway with the pre-construction work. Right now we are continuing to work on contracts in the build up to completing the purchase of the project at the end of this month. Once the share offer has closed we will send you a full update on the construction plans and keep you informed of the build progress every step of the way.

First bills savings are on their way!

14/04/2022

Graig Fatha has been energised for one full month. That can only mean one thing. Your first bill savings are on their way!

Next week your Ripple dashboard will be updated to show your savings as well as your generation. The savings themselves should appear on your Octopus account later in the month. Look out for them in the 'Balance history' of your Octopus account. We will let you know the date the savings will appear as soon as it's confirmed.

:D Good eh? 👍

:Not sure if the Kirkhillians get this update so thought you'd like to know that Ripple are on it and communicating well.

Turbine performance and data feed

You may have noticed some occasions when your dashboard was showing low or zero generation. This has been for a number of reasons:

1. Loss of connection to the data feed

There have been a number of occasions when we've lost the data feed showing the turbine generation. When this has happened your dashboard has shown zero generation, even though the turbine has been operating normally.  We have relocated the antenna and are working with the turbine company to improve connectivity to the turbine.

2. Grid curtailments

The grid company's control equipment has sent signals to the turbine to stop on a number of occasions. We have investigated this in some depth and adjusted settings relating to the power factor. Since the settings were changed there have not been any further curtailment events but we will continue to monitor this.

3. The turbine has undergone checks and its 500 hour service

The turbine has undergone its 500 hours service.  Whenever there is someone working inside the turbine it needs to be switched off. This obviously causes generation to drop to zero whilst the work is carried out.

We recognise you want speedy updates from us when generation looks lower than normal. Rest assured we are dedicated to getting you updates as soon as we can. Once we have explored any potential down time or data feeds losses with the relevant third parties, we will let you know via your dashboard as soon as possible.

Dashboard improvements are on their way

We have made improvements to your customer dashboard based on recent feedback from members. We can't wait to share it with you over the coming weeks. We will continue to improve our platform as we grow, so please keep your comments coming! They genuinely help shape the direction of our plans.

My WT1 generation is so tantalisingly close to 0.5MWh after the first 30 days of operation and averages 75% of baseline generation. Given the outages due to teething problems and the 500hr service, I give it a thumbs up.
16.9kW PV > 107MWh generated
Ripple 6.6kW Wind + 4.5kW PV > 22MWh generated
5 Other RE Coop's
105kWh EV storage
60kWh Home battery storage
40kWh Thermal storage
GSHP + A2A HP's
Rain water use > 510 m3

Nice feeling eh? More to come too, looking forward perversely to the tail end of the year to really see it crank. Glad they got the tappings sorted.

Next few days looks like a good test to see whether the new power factor settings on WT1 will stop the DNO shutting it down.

Should be running at high output 24/7 for at least 3 days.

If it does it will make a nice change from its output being about a quarter of the daily projections...
