If they can deliver a compact 2+2 for sub £20K, (ok details on performance/range etc required) and maintain build quality, that could be really disruptive.

Here’s hoping !

The trouble is that Chinese (like Japanese) costings are fantasies.
Japan gave its industries money at negative interest rates, China's government - or the Party - owns half the industries so they rig the prices at which they sell abroad to get the currency they need (or to undermine strategically important industries elsewhere so that they either collapse or can be picked off cheaply.) All (in the case of China) probably subsidised or underpinned by them still increasing their coal burn.

I'm aware that my N******n solar thermal panels came from China, but I believe that the Chinese did do the research and then the development to make the tubes as good as they are now/ still. Solar thermal is a Good Thing, so my conscience is clear! (apart fom the foreign manufacture and transport costs. They must buy a lot of components from other suppliers though. The most extreme example: I doubt that they make their own steel! And western countries are putting tarrifs on Chinese steel because it is being dumped in their markets below cost price.

Never mind ‘imposed’ tariffs - even with normal pricing, the mark-up before it reaches any UK customers will mean rather more than one might hope for….

Amusingly, Tesla is lowering the price of the Model 3 in China but raising it in other markets.
