Deployable PV Panels

I was in St Andrews today and the contractor compound for the 150th Open has 200 PV panels mounted on a concertina style array that basically pulls out a metal container, runs on 2 rails levelled off the ground.

Easily deployed PV set up, saves having the generators running all the time, so that’s good.

Given that golf courses are pretty much wildlife-free areas (and mostly zero biodiversity zones) with appalling water consumption too - but maybe not in Scotland - this looks suspiciously like greenwashing.

That’s a neat idea and has scale potential for home use all year around - sunny day and you want to use the garden then fold up the panels and enjoy the garden, rest of the time slide out the panels plug in and get some valuable free energy! What’s not to like ?

As for the application at the open I suspect the contractor has green credentials but as you say golf clubs aren’t generally recognised for their environmental work.

Happily I’ve never fancied owning any golf bats

I don’t know how small each panel sub set is but it’s going to be heavy. That is a challenge for the hinges and for loading on a lorry.
I hope it’s not near the practice area.
