Recently I contacted Good Energy, who've been my provider for years now, and asked if they were going to consider linking with Ripple Energy. Today I received the following reply:

Good Morning Justin,
Thank you for your email.
Apologies for the delay in coming back to you, we have been unusually busy the last few weeks and it is taking us longer than we would like to get back to our customers.
We are indeed planning to partner with Ripple, this is something our team are currently looking into and we will send out more information on this in due course.
Kindest Regards,
Lesley

So I'm very pleased not to need to change provider next year when the current scheme goes live :)

A little off topic but please humour me....... it is friday and thats red wine night ......
I have already purchased 1250 kw to hopefully produce my current consumption of 3967 kwh.
What do i achieve if i buy additional investment ??

Simple answer is more income.

When electricity (wholesale) prices are high you will do really well and be laughing all the way to the bank. Conversely when they are low, you will get a low return and be crying. Both ways, your investment will foster demand for more investors and more awareness get more cooperatives up and running and hence you can feel smug.

But how ???
My understanding is that by buying 1250kw of generation i get an anticipated supply of 3967 kwh (ripple figures) at a reduced rate.
Buying more generation = how does that give me income ??

You don’t get a discount on your usage, it’s irrelevant how much you use, you get real cash stuffed into your Octopus account based upon your share of the actual generation. For WT1 its 9.64p per each kWh generated.

So you get extra rebate which can be withdrawn to your bank account if required if you end up in ever increasing credit. You can buy up to the amount to generate 6999 kWh without having to offer any evidence of your actual usage. And even over that they seem to accept any reasonable excuse to buy more, like I am buying an EV or fitting a heat pump, etc.

But you might end up with a tax liability if you go over your personal and interest allowance.

I took advantage of the 12 monthly payments option when I did my second top up for Kirkhill. Realised its quite an extended timeline to switch on day so why not do similar with payment? Not trying to put temptation in your way or anything!
Can address (minimise) the tax issue by using a stocks & shares ISA for yourself and SWMBO for other investments. 9.64p per kWh generated is a pleasant surprise 😮

Quite surprised to see the turbine producing all the way down to a 5 mph wind. Miniscule production yet it is there on the graph. :D

If you pay in instalments you pay a 8.4% (inc VAT) arrangement fee, if you pay a single instalment you pay a 7.2% (inc VAT) arrangement fee.

For WT1 the arrangement fee was 5% (inc VAT). I thought that was fair because its similar to what I pay with Venture Capital Trust investments. The higher fees on WT2 are a bit steep.
