Second system extension extension.
Re: Second system extension extension.
JB, i got mine from Plug in Solar, the delivery charge from ITS was somewhat large
Renusol mounting used on the latest system extension here.
Has anyone used a Tristar to charge a Pylontech? And I dont really want to order any from the above because of the shipping cost.

Re: Second system extension extension.
I have contacted Grant at Bimble with a shopping list for the additions to the order (Rails, cable,mc4's etc) and have asked him to tag the whole order as one, bill me for the extra and send to me for the 13th June as I'm off to Germany with my son in the Bongo on Friday night. My last set of panels were a doddle as ground mount so low low cost. These one's with two in portrait and one in landscape on the same string have taken care of that!MoSTiE wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 5:11 pm JB, i got mine from Plug in Solar, the delivery charge from ITS was somewhat large

Finally hit SWMBO's patience limit which is fortuitous as i've also run out of useable roof space South facing. This order should not really have happened but we have had a long run of grey days and while the system as is has coped admirably and taken care of all it has not managed to quite keep up with the EV's demands.
I think Stinsy said a while back, 'I'm evangelical about oversized systems', and I agree! The penny dropped with me that I see Yinty (defined as quite a large number above a 2:1 ratio) more days grey and overcast than i do clear blue skies so better to set up for those grey one's?
Even with the Ripple investments current and upcoming there's a real drive in me to take care of as much of my business as i can off the books with no look or need for outside influences. Putin's atrocious landgrab, war, along with Sunaks Jaws like fly by of RE made me reassess what I am comfortable with.
I hope this post doesn't make me look like too much of a mentalist? Final icing on the cake was a small thought this morning when stacking logs, 'Get rid of some Shell', so I did. Shell have once again paid for a further solar extension here at Casa De. It would be nice to think that these extra panels will put me to a place where outside of Dec-Feb I will have on those poor grey days a 1kW inflow most of the time. We (including you) can do a lot with a kW of power? The high gain days will take care of themselves.
Obviously while i've been typing this, the sun has come out for the first time today and I've got 3.2kW incoming, life eh?
Sorry, never used Tristar.

Note from Midsummer, get this!
'Also to note we won't be allowing mounting orders to go unless they're part of a full PV kit I'm afraid,
Best wishes
Matthew Fishman'
Nice eh?
Ordered a K2 mounting system instead with Solar sparky. Came in a hundred quid cheaper too.
K2 mounting kit should be here Thursday, trot on Matty boy, trying to define my boundaries?.

Re: Second system extension extension.
Costs,
3x400W Trina Vertex panels incl del.
£700
Roof rail system, 100 mtr reel 4mm, half dozen mc4 connections and a pair of branches.
£301
So there we are. A grand for 1,200W, worth it?
I'm not sure this time as I didn't like being in amongst the scarcity and end behaviour of that (won't sell you rail unless you buy panels). Different topography for sure. On the upside, there is strong indication of a large upswing for residential solar PV. Good to think of that.
I'm a bit nervous of this set as it's up in the air properly, a mix of landscape & portrait plus slight roof mods and cable runs, an unknown rail system and as Nowty said 'don't arse up the +/- connections'.
I was out driving today with SWMBO and as the miles ticked by I was throwing figures around in my mind. This addition has cost me £180 delivery and £40 extra roof mounting due to the nonstandard layout.
Nonetheless, at £1,000 cost and with the best will in the world, let's say 8hrs per day 365 at 90% (I wish). Running on my current tarrif that is 5.68 years to pay back. Hmmn, I thought I'd be out at 20 years... Moral of this story is, if you have the space and balls just go large straight off. The gains are immediate on the timeline and the costs are vastly reduced (I have likely paid about £500 in delivery costs that could have been £150).
No matter, I am looking forward to getting up there later in the year and getting this going!

I hope your getting help putting it up, I just about managed 240W small panasonic panels single handed but 400W ones.Joeboy wrote: ↑Tue May 31, 2022 10:40 pm Costs,

Yep, once you get to 3 strings or more, cannot get the connections the wrong way round or the panels will be fecked without string fuses, but if you get it right, all good without them.
I think we have both said several times, from our personal experiences, go as big as you can from the outset, wherever it will fit. Don't worry about the cost, even borrowing the cash will still likely payback. I never thought only a short time ago that I would go full electric and have EV's.

Re: Second system extension extension.
I am going to use branch connectors to tap into the existing cables coming from Victron system roof mounted PV. Will also test and red tape positive sides before making any connections. I am very wary, thank you! I am pretty sure this will be a 2 day affair involving me, SWMBO and son. I might start the rails when I get back from Germany on the 13th June. I am Happy I got a hold of the 400W panels as this leaves me with no solar itch to scratch once the jobs done ( ). I think the same way as yourself on speed of progress. It hit me the other day that we were in profit from generation alone and gas count was zero for May, that takes a bit of getting used to and has been a pleasant surprise, plan, plan, plan then suddenly you are living it!nowty wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 12:15 amI hope your getting help putting it up, I just about managed 240W small panasonic panels single handed but 400W ones.Joeboy wrote: ↑Tue May 31, 2022 10:40 pm Costs,

You can move 400w panel around yourself, just dont climb up on to the roof with it
