E.Leclerc. Some of the French Hypermarkets, even in relatively small places, are bonkers. We always used to buy the kids bikes there - quality, fashionable ( ) and relatively cheap.

What always amaze me was the quality of seafood - Limoges is pretty much as far from the sea as you can get (comparing with U.K.), but the choice and quality of the seafood

And affordable.

This is why travel is so important - gives you different reference points.

If you do get as far south as Limoges, come back up via Poitiers - could even stop off at Futuroscope.

Totally different drive up than the route further inland to Limoges.

If you can come this way up, I’d suggest stopping off at Saumur - great place on the Loire. Good castle, nice city, great restaurants next to the river.

Outstanding seafood, saucisson, red wine. Literally extendable heavan. Tatre citron was pretty epic too in the coffee shop. Spent a wee bit reflecting on the socialist head snicking state that is France evolved today. Hadn't given that much thought...

In terms of red wine , we used to have a local ‘Cave’ where you could buy wine ‘en Vrac’. Basically, you bought your own wine box (sure it was 25l) - ie, a box with a vacuum pouch inside.

Cave owner would then fill with the wine of your choice - they had stainless steel vats of, in terms of red, ‘Bordeaux, Cotes du Rhone, Merlot’

Bit like a petrol station approach, but the wine was fine - good supping wine, nothing fancy, usually circa half the price of cheaper hyper market wine.

Aspects of French life are so nice - well, they used to be. As with everywhere, things are changing.

We will see this house tomorrow but it will have to be literally off the scale before we will buy. Being the bastard that I am I would probably prefer a property within Belguim for the triangulation of food/beer/architecture. We'll see. The best would be to drop half the house price on the fabled EVRV but the world doesn't seem to be quite there yet. Nice to hear from u BTB, thank you.

Saw the most incredible solar array on a single post. Had to have been 40 full size panels on it in one massive square atop the post. Wish I'd had time for a photo, sorry lads. It's on the run down from Falaise satnav set for B roads and loire valley via Le Man.

Seeing a few more PV set ups now but still way less than Europe and UK. Maybe there wasn't the same govt support?

Plenty WT's though and all turning. On the Loire, nice site and view from van.

In the photos below, my grateful thanks to Greg for the assistance with No2 turbine, and to my kind French ladies from the next village for their help with No3 turbine. …………… Il s'agit de la dernière de nos éoliennes fabriquées et fabriquées ici pour obtenir son propre bon service de 5 ans. Ce NO 3 a des lames en fibre de verre que nous avons fabriquées ici à partir de nos propres moules, et celles-ci pèsent 3 fois le poids des lames en bois de cèdre rouge normales.
Parce qu'ils sont lourds, j'ai du mal à les soulever sur leur montage 5off, 12 mm de diamètre, goujons en acier inoxydable. Alors voilà j'ai demandé aux dames de mes amis français Dimitri de m'aider car Dimitri est actuellement absent en contrat de travail. Je mets les lames jusqu'aux goujons et les dames les guident dans les trous de l'assemblage de la lame. Simple, mais impossible tout seul car l'assemblage de la lame est très fragile sur chacun des bouts de lame, donc quelqu'un pour guider est indispensable. Mes très grands mercis aux dames de l'Eco Log Cabin à Mardilly.

Chimney's in the Loire, admiring their style. Loving these homes built straight onto and into the Limestone cliff caves. Found a really nice little propery, eclectic owner, very personal developed garden space and playing some cool morning jazz. Stood quietly for a few moments enjoying the vibe, camera firmly in pocket then moved on. That guy or gal?
