Long range MG5 is now out

Post by GarethC »

61kWh battery (57kWh usable) compared to 52kWh in old version, so now comes with a WLTP range of 250 miles. Roof bars are now officially useable. Sadly, I don't -think- it will take a towbar, but given the list price of the top spec version is still only £29k after the PICG, and I bet you could get a few thousand off that, that's a really interesting value proposition. Also has 100kW charging as standard, and quite a lot of kit, including on the safety side, as far as I can see.

A useful upgrade to battery capacity and charging rate. Nice.

I had a quick look at your sig ad Gareth. You really should ask as it is advertising. Did you seek the ok? I quite like the product and would have no problem with you doing a thread on what you have achieved, but for it to be self advertising in every post you make is uncool and I'd ask politely that you change the sig to a non business base please.

Good to see the MG extending their game.

No worries at all. I still think you should show what you are doing if you have time. I could use some on a couple of Winter condensating veluxes we have.

Sure I'll start a thread on it when I have a minute. Would be good to get the forum's views on the product. Thanks for the invite to do so. I'm only really just about to 'launch' next month, so I'm running around like crazy trying to get everything in place. The product itself was an interest which became a hobby which became an obsession which will, hopefully, become a business. Feedback has been really encouraging so far.

I'm actually going to be in Inverurie next month, as my first commercial partner is based there, would you believe, and I'm going to help them get their workshop set up. I could drop off a trial pane, as I'm still ironing out the fixing approach for non-sash type windows (so that you can be confident it won't fall on your head if installed in a Velux :D )

Cool, pm me when u are on route or a couple of days before. I have a total of 3 veluxes in the rooms upstairs and even though I've got genuine velux insulating blinds fitted on all of them it would be nice to further cut down Winter condensation overall and go from there.

I hope the quality is there for you (expensive purchase / move)
In that we, like many had concerns about BOTH an American built EV with a lot of back history, AND, the relatively new unknown of a "made in china" Tesla.
& It turned out so far approaching 8000 miles, those fears were unnecessary.
Wife didn't see any mg's prior to buying, however the questionably placed /quirky wiring of the charger would have only profited the chiropractor at £50 an hour, weekly on going basis, thus no savings).

Looking forward to hearing how the whole thing works out as another marketplace choice & design.

Question, is it more blunt nosed SUV, similar to a kia, soul or am I out of the loop on this one!?

I have to say I've been really interested in the MG BEV's. They seem to offer a lot of value for money.

I've not driven one, and have only heard a bit of positive feedback from one owner, but hopefully they will help to expand the takeup of BEV's, by meeting one of the most important sweet spots of size, price and range.

Should also give the competition a kick up the bottom to get on with producing BEV's, or lose a lot of market share if they dawdle.
8.7kWp PV [2.12kWp SSW + 4.61kWp ESE PV + 2.0kWp WNW PV]
Two BEV's.
Two small A2A heatpumps.
20kWh Battery storage.

The MG BEVs seem to offer exceptional value for money. They look pretty good, I'm sure the toys/interior are what you'd expect from the price.

The critical point is reliability/longevity. I haven't heard any disaster stories, but they've not been on the road for long enough in big enough numbers to know for sure.
