Re: More air fryer comparisons ..& boy I'm hyped. Instantpot gourmet crisp.
Being lazy I have this morning (after crisping the chicken in the main pot) ..stuck marzipan paste croissant in at 2height levels, good results on both counts, 3-5 mins on 180c ..pot already hot.
Kinda kicking myself that I've been "frugally" heating croissant in the microwave & being disappointed all these years.
Fyi, considering I left the olive oil & garlic salt left overs in the pot for potatoes today, ...there was no transferable taint perceptible.
Winner winner non chicken tainted croissant dinner!
Gleaning the chicken daughter noted the stringier meat of the chicken, so we have to play there but all good this far.
(No bloody lid hanger for this model to take care of the air fryer lid unlike the regular pressure lid)

Well Gus,
Rubbed a few Turkish spices in, slapped a bit of some old bbq sauce out the cupboard across it too. Cooking at 185 degs for 45 minutes and the smell is insane. A bit gruesome to start with, watching a corpse twirl but then the smell and all is indeed well!
It really shouldn't be this easy?
The roast tatties(from garden) were done earlier and will get a 10 minute blast while the bird rests, effortless!

On stand by for SWMBO and Son to come home then a 8 minute blast to bring it all back up. Cooked the tatties earlier when there was 7kW coming in. Ripple who? Trot on...

I cooked some more tempura chicken tonight & beef dripping chips, chips overdone (didn't hear the beep) & over extended time due to wife insisting we use a lot liner.
Currently got some smoked flour & spice covered chicken wings in the air fryer ...cholula sauce to add some lightweight dipping mayo zest, (homemade mayo)
We shall see.
I'm glad it is so easy joe, I now wish I'd started the wings earlier as too many for one cook, but not enough for 2 people, guess the teen will beat me to the food as usual.
Again no need for extractor fan,

Re: More air fryer comparisons ..& boy I'm hyped. Instantpot gourmet crisp.
I have a question,
How does this compare to a fan oven? For energy consumption?
As from what I can see it's basically a small fan oven that is on all the time when cooking?
We looked at getting an air fryer. Looking at the manual, it basically said all of the presets it had would not cook things properly so would need a longer cooking time ?
Thanks

Minimum 40% less energy use. Cooks faster for less power is well insulated and even though its a fan unit it does not dry the food. There are many different air fryers so be aware. I stumbled on mine without knowing the choices available. Luckily this is what I was looking for. Its a little bit surreal just how good they are. Tonight's 4lb chicken took a total of 1hr on a 1800W unit. Didn't have a power meter plugged in but it is VERY well insulated so it wont be pulling the 1.8kW all thru that timeframe. The smell of cooking chicken was apparent within 2 minutes of pressing the on button. As I say, surreal.Petertc wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 9:24 pm I have a question,

Coming from homes with aga's growing up it's a completely different animal, I love it, too much.
It could be responsible for a scratch cooking revival given its speed & modern *short* attention spans!

Gus, chicken converted to chicken noodle soup with Turkish vermicelli, outstanding!
Aye and none of that wee bit vermicelli, we are talking plenty here!
SO satisfying to do.

Get plenty of that home grown chilli, preferably fresh, in it just before serving. Prevents and or cures nearly all known diseases.
Well, good for sorting colds out at least.
