After what seems like an age, the in roof trays and panels were delivered today. I was surprised how little protection there was on the panels, just cardboard corners. So it's no surprise one of the panels is scratched. It's not very deep and looks like a stone or piece of debris was dragged across the panel, top to bottom.
My question is, will this affect performance? I'm tempted to ask for it to be replaced simply for aesthetic reasons but if it doesn't affect performance it's not such an issue.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: Damaged PV Panel
If the scratch doesn't hold moisture it will be OK.
You will need to weigh up the delay for replacement if it's worth it or not.

Re: Damaged PV Panel
And you may end up with a few more scratches on them being installed.
How much PV did you go for in the end ?

@johnW
We have a thread discussing a damaged panel already which it you utilise the search option may be of use to you either for repair potential, replacement or the likes, ...it involves footstep damage & background detail.. If you got away with a scratch you may have been luckier than you think.

Re: Damaged PV Panel
The panels I bought recently were only packed with a thin bit of corrugated cardboard, too. This had torn in a few places around the corners, but luckily the only damage seems to be a few scratches on the frames at the corners. Pity they aren't shipped with better corner protection, really.

Op, don't be tempted to try polishing it out without reading up first.

Re: Damaged PV Panel
Our last full pallet of 36off direct from Yingli China, was very well packed and the outerbox and pallet were in good order and the contents very well packed. I think its when rough handling occurs when the pallet is split into smaller orders.Oldgreybeard wrote: ↑Fri Sep 16, 2022 2:35 pm The panels I bought recently were only packed with a thin bit of corrugated cardboard, too. Re: Damaged PV Panel
I remember Clockman! Our last set from Bimble were well separated with cardboard sheets and shrinkwrapoed to a pallet. Once I split the package they had their cardboard corners too, no complaints. Sorry to hear about the scratch OP. I'd do a quick nail test, if the nail snags it's deep.ClockmanFRA wrote: ↑Fri Sep 16, 2022 4:21 pmOur last full pallet of 36off direct from Yingli China, was very well packed and the outerbox and pallet were in good order and the contents very well packed. Re: Damaged PV Panel
Thanks for the replies guys. Maybe I got off lucky to have just one damaged, I'll take a better look at it tomorrow.
Thanks, Mr Gus, I'll look at the thread you suggest.
Nowty, I got 5.3kW in the end, 14 x 380w and my good lady chipped in and bought a 4.8kW battery. A good start, but more to do.
