ISTR the solution was to make a bespoke cable with one or two wires swapped to go between the 2 types of batteries.

Yes, pins are swapped now, you need pin 2 from inverter to pin 6 on the battery, pin 4 -> pin4 and pin5-> pin5. Although I'm told the rai only actually has pins 4 and 5 wired up inside the inverter.

I've tried all this with a self made cable (tested with a cable tester). Still not working.

Personally, I think the new chips in the pylon batteries are causing the incompatibilities which is why I'm trying to gather as much details as possible.

Can bus connection is “nice to have” but not “required”, you can set the inverter to lead-acid and adjust the voltages if can-bus cannot work.

However I’ve never heard of anyone having the same problems you’re encountering.
If it comes to it I'll give that a go although I'm not sure exactly what all the values should be set to. Is that something you can help me with?

There's quite a few people on the pylon group on Facebook having the same issue as well unfortunately.

I logged a ticket with Solis and asked if there was a software update for my inverter in case that was the issue. The chap checked and sent it down to the inverter remotely via the internet. Took about 1 hour or so. All you need is a working data logging stick.
Ah ok, that sounds easy enough - did you have to call up to push the ticket or did they just do it? The couple of us who have raised tickets so far have had no response when just left int he system. Also what are you current DRM and software versions following the push? (or were they just clutching at straws hoping the problem would go away!)

Others can advise better than me but Pylontechs are 15S LiFePO4 so 53V is a good charge voltage and 45V is a good discharge cutoff.

I raised a ticket - no response for a while so called up and it was picked up.

BEFORE:
DRMNO is 8
MODEL is 26
Software Version 11000E

AFTER:
Software Version: 130010
Model 26
DRM no: 8

Nice one, useful to know - I have the 11000E build too - but my usual approach is 'if it ain't broke' unless there are clear documented changes between the builds and it *might* solve a problem or add a feature and/or not break in the update process!

Looks like they finally have the US5000 in stock on the ITS website. Did you get a call?

Oh that's interesting - no call, I was expecting some kind of automated email?

No idea, maybe they are a bit behind. I didn’t get a call, but I did when they sent the inverter a couple months back. I assume it may be the same process. But agree if they need to call up for every order that’s not very efficient 😅

Victron recommendations for Pylons are

Max charge voltage 52.4 (this is lower than P's own recommendation of 53.2 but V think it is unnecessarily high and makes balancing difficult)
Absorption 52.0
Float 51.0

Cutoff 44.0

But in practice the BMS trips out at 47.0 and then won't allow discharge until charging has first raised it a lot ?1.5V. This gives a problem with e.g. switching on a kettle when you have a low SoC. The internal resistance is about 30 mohm per 3.55kWh module so the load pulls it down into the trip region. If you want to catch it earlier than that so it will recover by itself you need to set it higher than 47.0 depending on anticipated load. I have put in a stepped characteristic using NodeRed which helps quite a bit.

Not sure if the technology in my Force-L2 is completely identical but the settings here https://www.victronenergy.com/live/batt ... ch_phantom are for all Pylons
