Selling my XC90 PHEV

#1

Post by Stinsy »

I know some of you have been disparaging of the environmental benefits of this particular car and there have been other people who have taken offence at the mere fact it is a big 4x4. However I genuinely don't think I'd have ordered the iD4 without first dipping my toe in with a PHEV.

We are in the insane situation where it is now worth £5k more than I bought it for 2 years ago. I guess the expansion of the ULEZ is prompting demand for compliant vehicles. So I'm selling it now while values are high.

I'm fully aware that values could rise further, but used cars almost never appreciate so I can only assume this is a temporary blip. We'll just have to get to December as a one-car-family!

Similar thing happened with my 2 litre automatic diesel ford focus.

Only £30 road tax because it had stop / start technology and still passed the ULEZ, another reason why it was time to say goodbye whilst the going was good.

I did a "We buy any car" valuation when I ordered the id4 and they offered £2k more than I paid for it. Did one again this week and it'd gone up another £3k.

Has to be temporary? Right? That sort of thing cannot continue. Surely?

Guys, the gut wrecking thing about "stop start" is that it is easy to ignore / nobble.

For instance our B class merc was "stop start" but easy to turn off, cleaner in name only, the other stop start we bought doesnt, the merc never did, both fiddle the system at cost to the environment.
AND ..despite tinkering appeared to be permanently "turned off" this never worked over multiple long journeys = veritable "crock o nasty"

Our diddy smart for two 450 with its tiny 695cc engine, a real bonus in the sense urban environ gets hammered for tax, yet in terms of the space it gives back to the streets & other road users visibility (if you've ever parked one you'll know) as a kei car ought to get more recognition & encouragement from govt.

Ps smart mhd ...never buy one they are expensive trouble

(Our 450 is NOT mhd)

Yeah I know, I have to admit I generally turned it off because it was very annoying in an automatic as it gave you a slight delay in setting off at busy roundabouts.

I've only had Start/Stop in a manual. There it starts the engine as you dip the clutch, bu the time you're in 1st and start to lift the clutch it is ready to go.

Congrats on ordering the iD4 - when do you take delivery?
Also congrats on selling the XC90PHEV for more than you paid for it! I'd take the money and run if it were me. £5k is a heck of an uplift and I'm sure is entirely temporary.

I had stop/start in my Volvo V40 - was on a manual and I got used to using it quite quickly and it worked well. The stop/start in our company Transit van though is awful - that's on an automatic and it's really duff. It's a sticking plaster over a bleeding artery though isn't it really let's be honest.

The EV charging point on the front of my house looks a little silly with just a diesel Audi sat in front of it!

I've had stop / start on both manual and automatics. On a manual, I quite liked it and was no problem, but its a very different driving experience with an automatic.

In fact on one occasion with the automatic I stalled it and my mate who was in the car with me laughed and said, "How can you stall an automatic !".
