The frack is back.

Any news worthy story. Good things to watch at the Cinema, Theatre, on TV or have you read a good book lately?

I don't really understand why fracking is still being suggested. The suggestions/claims from day one, where that the European geology wasn't suitable. This was proven with the economic failure in Poland, which was supposed to have the most valuable reserves in Europe. Now we have Cuadrilla confirming that our shale is not economically viable.

Even in the US, where the geology / fracking is easier, the financial losses of companies has been staggering, comparable only to the fugitive losses of methane gas itself, resulting in an AGW impact of methane generation (with frack gas) that's worse than coal.

So testing in Europe confirms it won't work. Testing in the UK, confirms it won't work. There will be no significant effect on total European supplies (nor market price). And we may create a new FF industry and jobs, that will fail. Or worse still, will need to be propped up to save face.

To be polite, I'll 'guess' that the Government know this (impolitely, I'm certain) and are just waving shiny objects in front of some of their more extreme members/voters to keep them on side. Hopefully 'pro-fracking' is a Tory Gov position, not a Tory party one.

Why waste time on a busted flush, when RE, insulation and heatpumps already offer a better, faster and cheaper solution, and are viable (no ifs or buts)?

It is insane. Tory voters are utterly against fracking. This is the FF lobby at work.

Seems to have been reversed, the fracking ban is back in place, thank goodness: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-63402777
The moratorium on fracking in England has been restored by new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Downing Street confirmed Mr Sunak was committed to the ban on fracking in England set out in his party's 2019 manifesto.

His predecessor Liz Truss lifted the ban, saying fracking could take place where there was local consent.

But this provoked a backlash from many Conservative MPs because of concerns about earth tremors linked to fracking.

Saw the news. Basically Liz was a shill for the FF industry. Tory party manifesto says "no fracking" and Rishi is sticking to it!
