Hi Ken, thinking about what you said regarding gas - and that burning gas (of some sort) seems like a good way to balance demand and supply - you might find this report interesting, as it looks at the decline of FF gas, and projects energy sources to 2050.
As we chatted, nothing wrong with using gas, ideally non-fossil fuel sourced, so long as the overall effect is a decline. So this article / graph shows that quite well. Btw, I may have missed confirmation on the change in demand for leccy, but I'd guess looking at the graph, that it will at least double, since the %age from hydro halves, whilst I assume the actual amount will increase a little bit.

Electricity demand in the UK has literally been plummeting since the peak of 2003. Last year electricity demand was down by more than 30% on the 2003 figure. The downturn in electricity demand shows little sign of reducing yet, although I suspect it will level off, might even increase slightly, as EVs become more widespread and once the future gas boiler ban starts to bite.
