I would definitely recommend taking the opportunity to use a different database for Home Assistant, there's an awful lot more performance available.
Plus, it's easier to use historical statistics to drive some self adjusting automations, etc.
It should be pretty straightforward when using the HA addons

I'd be interested to see how good it is, a friend is looking to set up HA soon.
I've now managed to do this. The T530 seems to run at between 5W and 6W when running HA, so not a lot more than the Raspberry Pi and USB HDD I'm also running.

Richbee,

Is it too cheeky to ask how much and where you sourced your RPi 4 from please?

I got it from Pimoroni - but they were out of stock again the other day when I looked for RS485 cables.
It was £88 for the 4Gb model, with power supply, case, SD card and HDMI adaptor.
Not very cheap, but not too bad given the lack of supply

Thanks,

One of my older sons has a 3B that he's going to post to me as he no longer needs it for uni, but if i get bitten by the bug and will no doubt be looking for a 4 in the not-so-distant future, having watched oohtube videos for a few weeks I am beginning to think even I could manage that :o

So I got the USB-M.2 adapter and have just gone to flash the HAOS onto the SSD, and it turns out its only 8GB rather than the 16GB as advertised! Would this be plenty to run HAOS on without issue? Hoping so, so I don't need to chase up the seller for false advertising and send it back, as annoying as it is to only get 8 rather than 16GB, as long as its enough I could live with it.

Should be OK on 8GB I think. The larger size just allows a larger database size, so allows a longer history period to be saved. I'm pretty sure that 8GB should be fine for a few years worth of data, though.

Well all up and running, thanks for the help. I had to stop myself at 1am last night from delving deeper after simply getting it installed, bios sorted and booted up and found the ip address so i can log in from my laptop and then play further. It's autodetected quite a few things already, Sonos speakers, 3x Daikin A2A units, Logitech harmony remote hubs, so impressed already! Whats the little tile on the overview page with just my name on it supposed to be/do? I feel this is one hell of a rabbit hole I'm about to fall down! Any essential first steps here?
