It only when you run them off say a 5V supply and need to drop the voltage at the running current of the LED.

Generally the voltage corresponds to the band-gap - which corresponds to the wavelength (colour); so 1.2ish for near infrared, 2.2ish for red, 3.0 for yellow, etc, with blue and white (blue /uv plus fluorescent) at around 4ish volts.

I doubt they'll last long at 3.8v, and possibly not at 3.6v. If you want them to last, and assuming they're 20mA then
R= (3.65-3.2)/0.02
=22 ohms

They'll also work as a quick indicator of battery soc as with a low battery They'll be a lot dimmer.

Cheers Marcus, they are indeed 20mA and I've ordered a pack of 22ohm resistors, cheers guys! When in doubt see thread title! ;)

So they will! Eventually I'll wire each pack with one and I had hoped to see some visual ref re soc.

I can actually walk into and function in the garage on the led's alone! Cool to the touch though. Can't even imagine how bright it would be will all 15 hooked in and no control. :twisted:

Thank you! We have an unassuming 0.8kWh falling to now 0.4kWh coming in from the PV.

I can't stress enough how RE living is a multifaceted beast.

We are running home at about 130W load at most when the freezers are not running. That 0.4kWh coming in is enough to flatline the battery soc and dare I say it actually be charging a little. Classic FM on and a few led lights. This is a great way to live! For anyone generating low figure PV, have another sweep of the house for load vampires.

Load demand of Classic FM! :shock:

Minus 2 here with lawn full frozen. Not bothered. :lol:
