Not only are you required to have a BEV, the car/charge point need to be correct models and they do a "test charge" before allowing you to sign up!Thebeeman wrote: ↑Sun Dec 11, 2022 9:36 amExtract from Intelligent Octopus T&C's, clause 3.
Batteries and heat pumps qualify.
"The Intelligent Octopus tariff is for customers with low carbon technology at home, including electric vehicle home charging, heat pumps or home batteries. Any electricity used by low carbon technology as well as any other electricity used in your home during off-peak hours will be charged at the night rate."
Full Terms.

LuxPower inverter/charger
(Artist formally known as ******, well it should be obvious enough to those for whom such things are important.)

Just to clarify what others have partially said - you need an EV for intelligent Octopus, and it has to have a compatible charger.
All you need for Octopus Go is a smart meter, although they say it's aimed at EV charging, they don't enforce that as far as I can see.
Re: Does British Gas still have an Economy 7 tariff?
Clause 5 onwards in the T&C's states that they will need to control your EV or heat pump or battery charger. I read that to mean just having one of those technologies allows access to the tariff. Any additional power consumed in the 'off peak' period is at night rate.

How would they control it?
Doesn’t make sense

via the "internet of things?" I bet the default is to enable external control (i.e. over-ride the owner's instructon) and only the savvy will bother to switch it off...

The 'correct' car charger or my Luxpower inverter are controllable remotely if you choose to allow it. With the inverter and agile tariff I think it can be changed to use the cheapest or free leccy by the supplier, not a route I'm looking to go.

Or any charger and a compatible EV.dangermouse wrote: ↑Sun Dec 11, 2022 2:22 pm

Thanks for the replies - Go or Eco7 sound like they’ll be viable.
