Structural incompetence?

Structural Problems dating back to when McDonnell Douglas bought Boeing with their own money. It went from an engineering company run by engineers which was set up to produce a high quality product no matter what the price, into an engineering company run by MBAs set up to produce a highly profitable product no matter what the quality. 777 was the last programme of the old Boeing, and the last one to run smoothly.

As I used to live in London and commute on the Piccadilly line, it was well known and frequently repeated story in the press about the worlds most expensive public transport cost per mile.

Its the 43 second jaunt on the Piccadilly Line between Covent Garden and Leicester Square for a distance of 0.162 miles, so if you pay cash, its now almost the equivalent of £34 per mile.

Once getting off at Covent Garden there was a massive que for the lifts (no escalators) so decided to use the staircase. There is a warning that there are 193 steps. I thought, that's not many ?, but it turns out equivalent to a 15 story block of flats.

Living in London, one quickly learns that it is often quicker to walk between nearby stations, rather than descending to the platform, waiting for the train and then ascending back to ground level. It would take less than 4 minutes to walk between Covent Garden and Leicester Square stations.

However foreigners are welcome to come and spend their money supporting TfL.

The "standard" tube map is great for navigating the network (or following a planned journey when you are onboard,) but terrible for planning shorter journeys.
I use https://www.traveline.info/ quite a bit. It often shows up easy walks from or between LU stations that you wouldn't have spotted from the standard map, and works well in places outside London too!

It's especially good for setting off into unknown territory anywhere in the country, when it flags up different bus routes that go to different sides of a destination. E.g. B5 7RL, when it gave me several options down different main roads..
