Glad you got it sorted, and very sorry indeed to give you the bum steer about the Weiland connector, it looked from the images to be the right one, but I've learned the lesson now to be a bit more cautious when suggesting something that looks the same but clearly isn't!

Hi OGB,

Not a bum steer at all and no criticism intended. I had the two things physically in my hand and I would have sworn it was a Weiland connector. It was only when the connector would slide 50% of the way in and get stuck that I realised there was a difference.

Interestingly enough the outer sheath of the weiland connector and the the Solax connector were interchangeable ... so I suspect there was some cloning going on .....

I suspect you may well be right, and that Solax, or another Chinese connector company, has cloned the Weiland connector and made it just slightly different to avoid copyright issues. I think this happens a fair bit in that part of the world, copying of technology and designs seems to be rife with very little regulation of IPR.

The actual install was quite straight forward and I will post up a few photos as soon as I can get them off my phone.
I am looking forward to this.

I too have no luck talking to importers/concessionaires about stuff as they only deal with businesses. The solar installers only want to install whole systems.

I guess as time goes by more jobbing electricians will get experience of RE installs and be more able to help, in the meanwhile it seems DIY is the way forward even though I am uncomfortable with the electrical side of things.
