Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
Re: Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
Octopus is definitely in it tomorrow (tues) and looks like an even higher payout than today, from the accepted bids I work it out as an average of £5,330 per MWh.
So my guess it will work out around £4 per kWh saving for us.

Re: Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
And we are off again, opting in to Octopus is now open for tomorrows (Tues) 16:30 to 18:00 saving session and remember to check you are opted in. I recommend after opting in, you log out and then log back in again and check your opted in status.
Its an even higher pay out this time at £4 / kWh as the octopus won an average bid of £5.33 / kWh.
The all important "in day adjustment" window will start at 12:30 and finish at 15:30. I will be time shifting as much power as I can from my usual overnight cheapslot to the in day adjustment window.

Re: Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
How do you know the average use is based on 12-3pm tomorrow? Octopus says it's based on the same hours over 10 (?) days.
Re: Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
Read back here if you want the hard maths,
https://camelot-forum.co.uk/phpBB3/view ... =80#p24281
You are right that it is based over the same hours over previous 10 days, but the 3 hour in day adjustment window makes a big difference, and the less you normally use the more disproportionate difference the in day adjustment makes until the situation some of us battery users experience which is normally near zero usage. In that case the average of the 3 hour in day adjustment window becomes your baseline which you are measured against.
The in day adjustment window is always a 3 hour window starting 4 hours before a saving session starts, so it finishes 1 hour before the saving session starts. As tomorrows saving session starts at 16:30, tomorrows in day adjustment lasts from 12:30 to 15:30.

Re: Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
Average use is over 10 days. The in day adjustment is from start-4hrs to start-1hr.
The in day adjustment is designed to compensate for non average days. Say, it is much colder than before and your heat pump is running more, Then the in-day adjustment will work out that you are using more electricity that day and therefore when you stop using so much electricity for one hour, your saving is higher as the adjusted base is higher.
I hope that my explanation makes sense, I am sure others could describe it more elegantly.

Re: Octopus saving sessions coming 1st Nov
Octopus sent me an email about todays Saving session and made a recommendation about heating your house earlier before the saving session begins.
Funny enough Pete , I was thinking of boosting the storage heaters and the hot water tank earlier between around 12:30 to 15:30, and maybe I'll also charge the home battery and EV too. SWMBO also has a washing load lined up, so might as well put that on too.
