Re: Long range MG5 is now out
The critical point is reliability/longevity. I haven't heard any disaster stories, but they've not been on the road for long enough in big enough numbers to know for sure.
True, re BEVs, but there have been a great number of ICE MGs that have had negative appraisals re longevity - the main one being corrosion of panels and supporting structures.

Re: Long range MG5 is now out
Slightly aside. I stuck my leaf into a local garage for a service after 10k in our ownership . I specified pull all pads, clean and rebuild, drop reduction gear oil and renew. Grease all brake pipes & replace pollen filter. Cost a couple of hundred quid but worth it. I think too many people think ev's are drive and forget which of course they are not. Caveat emptor for sure in the 2nd hand market. I also waxoyled all arches and suspension components post cleaning. In addition I clean out the rear arch inner lip. Regularly of dirt build up.I've been doing this stuff on my cars forever regardless of power plant.

Re: Long range MG5 is now out
So the long range MG5 is available locally for just £25.5k new. I've seen one, it looks good and I am -sorely- tempted. EVs with decent range really are on the cusp of becoming affordable.
I'd prefer the 80kWh Enyaq, but with options (125kW charging etc) I can't currently get that for much less than £42k (with the bump to VED that comes with).

There is no VED on BEVs!GarethC wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 11:21 am So the long range MG5 is available locally for just £25.5k new. I've seen one, it looks good and I am -sorely- tempted. EVs with decent range really are on the cusp of becoming affordable.

Re: Long range MG5 is now out
I think the OP is referring to the "luxury car tax" extra VED that cars priced over £40,000 attract. But this no longer applies to full BEVs

Re: Long range MG5 is now out
Oh good to know about the £40k threshold not applying to BEVs, thanks gents.
Re: Long range MG5 is now out
Sigh. Went to view the Enyaq at the weekend, and it's a very nice car, but decided can't manage the £42k cost. They're selling like hot cakes, so no chance of a discount.
So, off to see the MG5 this weekend. Might be the best we can afford for the time being.

Re: Long range MG5 is now out
I can confirm that, something that potentially put me off the TM3, but I believe there was a Government U turn. There is a drawback with a pricey EV is the £2,500 grant is not available on a BEV over £35k.Stinsy wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 12:00 pmThere is no VED on BEVs!GarethC wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 11:21 am So the long range MG5 is available locally for just £25.5k new. Re: Long range MG5 is now out
Try “drive the deal” I still got £5k off list on my iD4 even though there was an 8 month wait and VW put the prices up a few weeks after I locked in my order.GarethC wrote: ↑Mon Oct 04, 2021 11:13 am Sigh.
