I've been exceptionally pleased with mine. I should have fitted the downstairs one as well before the winter.

I'm actually going to try to engage with the Home Energy Scotland policy team to see if I can persuade them to provide financial assistance for air to air heat pumps in a similar way to air to water (very remote chance, but worth a try). AIUI, the reason they don't provide financial support is 1. A2A usually doesn't do hot water (soluble problem - there are systems already that do) and 2. They can be used for cooling, which is not environmentally friendly.
On the second point, in Scotland the amount of time they'd be used for heating is minimal, so I don't think they should be ruled out on those grounds. If they're really bothered about it, providing A2A systems with the cooling controls removed shouldn't be that difficult.
People here agree that they should be an option given more support/attention?

Hi Gareth totally agree (pedantry warning, I suspect you meant cooling not heating).
If A2A units received just some small support they would be ideal for small properties like flats which currently have resistive electrical heating, such as storage radiators. For minimal disturbance and costs an A2A unit would reduce bills.
The Gov policy on this is crazy.

Here in our home in East Anglia then in the last four years for every kWh of energy used for cooling ten have been used for heating.
Following the announcement of this years Fully Charged show in Farnborough I emailed them precisely on the points you've raised here. As at last years show A2A systems didn't even get a mention at the very presentation they should have. Instead, the focus was upon far more expensive options which coincided with eligibility for the governments generous grant. I was really pee'ed off by it all.
Anyway surprisingly a seemingly favourable reply came back saying they had the first six programmes organised for this year but would like put it on file and include in the second half as it highlighted a number of key points.
No idea if anything will come of it but for sure we need to promote A2A as it can satisfy a huge number of properties at a fraction of the cost of other systems being offered so encouraging the transition to a cleaner future.

Whoops yes cooling of course.
If not used for cooling, they don't even need condensate drains, making them easier to install.

There is not much need in expensive, energy cost soaring times to fit whole house units & keep it tropical, the video is right, core room heating & sensible positionig to maximise its reach where possible is preferable in my book.
If you fancy making up a template I will harangue some politicians of what you are wanting to get at / done.
10-15 k for a whole house heat pump is poxy & excludes a lot of folk, it needs to be better & infinitely more accessible.
We know the difference affordable heat schemes can !ake & the implementation of this one is ballhooks, said it for a long time, way less of a gamble for people to splash out on new & unknown technology for the average punter.
Air con & cleaner air, less dust, allergens, mould spores, hayfever? ...win that I'm sure doctors could get behind in alleviating a lot of seasonal misery, heat exhaustion etc...
So yes, feel free to update this thread & divvy out some material & direction as to where you want to take this..the ashp is the favourite part of our tesla, it is a component that works! ..(& was the ultimate factor that fact persuaded us to get the thing).
