saving 4 billion a year savings suggests they need to be paying you a bit more than they do, the bit I have always objected to is that they plan toy use your cars battery and your home battery for their needs - in the long run will the amount they reimburse you really cover the wear and tear on your infrastructure as well as the power taken?

Still sceptical myself, but hope ultimately to be proven wrong.

This already happens to some extent with the Octopus IO tariff. Even within the allocated charging slot periods, the charging does sometimes randomly stop and start. Turning off loads has a similar effect as generating and exporting to the grid.

https://octopus.energy/press/octopus-en ... wer-plant/
Octopus Energy’s unique smart tariff ‘Intelligent Octopus’ reaches over 100MW of car batteries, surpassing the largest battery on the UK grid.

https://www.nationalgrideso.com/industr ... ng-reserve
The service is open to any technology with the ability to increase generation or reduce demand by at least 3 MW.

And in their IO terms and conditions,
https://octopus.energy/intelligent-octo ... onditions/
"We work out how long it will take to reach that level and then schedule the exact hours when the vehicle will charge across all of the hours you're plugged in. This enables us to help you make the most of low prices on the grid or times of high renewables output, or help stabilise local or national energy grids when they're under pressure."

"Where you opt for Octopus to provide demand side response optimisation services for you we need the exclusive right to control your low carbon technology when required to deliver demand side services, which by agreeing to these terms you confirm you authorise Octopus to do this. Participating in demand side services requires Octopus to commit your low carbon technology to service contracts up to 5 years ahead. By agreeing to these terms you authorise Octopus to enter such service contracts and confirm Octopus has the exclusive right to control your low carbon technology to deliver on demand side services when required by such service contracts."

Saving session around the 8th ?

We are looking a bit thin on generating capacity v demand around then. :?

NGESO creates a forward view of generation availability (also referred to as Output Usable data under the Grid Code) for generation and interconnector capacity, accounting for planned outages; this generation availability is reported as generation forecasts. While publishing the generation availability, NGESO also assess this against the actual GB electricity system requirements and provides the Generating Plant Operating Margin, which is the additional generation or reserve, on top of the total Demand Forecast in order to meet the actual demand in real time.

NGESO also reports National Surplus Forecast which is derived from the difference of the total aggregate generation availability from the GB electricity system requirements (sum of Generating Plant Operating Margin and Demand Forecast).

2023-03-06 22:05 From : Power System Manager - National Grid Electricity Control Centre ELECTRICITY MARGIN NOTICE An ELECTRICITY MARGIN NOTICE has been issued by the System Operator to encourage market actions to increase System Margins. For the period: from 16:30 hrs to 20:30 hrs on Tuesday 07/03/2023 There is a reduced system margin. System margin shortfall 980 MW The current contingency requirement is 700 MW. 0 MW of generation is excluded from the available system margin due to system constraints. Maximum Generation Service may be instructed. Trading Points, Control Points and Externally interconnected System Operators are requested to notify National Grid of any additional MW capacity. Suppliers please advise National Grid of any additional Demand Control available The situation will be reviewed again by National Grid at 12:00 hours and an update issued. This Notification of Issue of a GB Transmission System Warning - ELECTRICITY MARGIN NOTICE Issued at 22:05 hrs on 06/03/2023 Issued by Ben Young National Grid Electricity Control Centre ************** Information Note:- As the System Operator, National Grid are responsible for balancing the electricity system in the final hours before real-time. We have a number of routine tools we can use to help us do this, this toolkit includes ELECTRICITY MARGIN NOTICES. An ELECTRICITY MARGIN NOTICE is used to send a signal to the electricity market. It highlights that, in the short-term, we would like a greater safety cushion (margin) between power demand and available supply. It does not signal that blackouts are imminent or that there is not enough generation to meet current demand.

2023-03-06 16:02 NGESO has requested a Transmission Owner discontinue an outage within relevant Emergency Return to Service time, under STC Section C Part 2 (7). Issued by Natasa Dinic at 15:45 on 06/03/2023

It may not be bad enough yet or they may want to do one the day after which would not normally be announced until tomorrow.

The notice says, "The situation will be reviewed again by National Grid at 12:00 hours and an update issued."

Wind is dropping along with the temp and maybe even snow on solar panels.

Damn glad of the WBS this morning! There is something very human and satisfying to getting the WBS back up and running in seconds that GCH just can't touch. Flamegazing at 02.30hrs, brilliant. :D
